With the UK heading into an election in early July (parallel with the EU elections through June), I think it's almost certain that London and Paris will try to avoid openly escalating the conflict - the last thing that either Sunak or the EU top brass want is a major racking-up of the war in the middle of the election campaign season. Especially a rack-up that could lead to an open military conflict between Russia and the UK/NATO. Sunak is fighting an uphill battle and he knows that a minimum thing most British voters expect of him is to keep Britain safe and outside of the threat of war. The aftermath of these two elections - setting up a new government and a new EU Commission - is likely to be complicated, it could well pull out some over time - and before there are new governments and parliaments on place, they are unlikely to go for an uptick with Ukraine. So we can assume that it will take long into July, or even August, before any (supposed) "turn-up of UK/EU support" for Ukraine would be decided. By that time, it could well be too late for Kiev... (I personally think they lost this war at Bakhmut a year ago, but that's just my two cents)

"Europe will have to provide for their own defense." That's a joke. After WW2, Europe has given up national sovereignty to the US in return for the US providing their security backbone. This has allowed the growth of the massive "Social Net" that people there are now used to. The money that should have been spent for defense has gone to various social programs. It's why you see the sad state of the UK's army and especially it's Navy. Likewise for Germany and France. If the European Governments actually started spending at the level necessary to provide a real defense that does not depend on the US, they would be voted out of office by the taxpayers, who already are stressed out by VAT and other taxes. That's the reality. Europe, especially now when they've cut themselves off from cheap Russian energy, cannot afford to spend what they need on building back their military and the industries needed to support those armies. They can barely get by right now with Uncle Sam paying the Defense Bill...and Uncle Sam is starting to run out of Inflated Dollars he can borrow to continue to provide that support.

I'm often surprised by the lack of understanding regarding American capabilities. The U.S. keeps the ability of attacking more than one enemy at the same time, often half a world apart to demonstrate capabilities under difficult circumstances. We can do this because there are several "Battle Groups" that can operate simultaneously. China often gets angry when U.S. battle groups operate close to Chinese territory. Russia is much more calm about this. Unlike France or Britain for example, U.S. carriers and their battle groups are nuclear powered and can do this for extended times. Europe appears to be clueless about this. Several carriers may be deployed simultaneously JUST to demonstrate this. Chinese leaders get specially upset if battle groups approach China "fully loaded" capable of hitting anything ANYWHERE including China. Obviously we hope things don't escalate. But, but these ships are free to navigate anywhere, just a few miles from shore...

How the US Empire will end: An empire like a state too is a complex system. And complex systems are impossible to predict at a microscopic level (too many interacting parts). However, at a macro level predictions are astonishingly accurate. The key is to find the right level of macro-description. At the top level the disintegration can be described as one of contradictory tear-up. The increasing number of contradictory policies and strategies which appear from the ideological framework create the fissures that will break up the empire from the inside. The reason is that the diverging reality needs of its populations spread across the globe, cannot be satisfied by a centrally organised Hegemon. It basically leads to the SOveit Union problem- trying to rule centrally through a unified ideology and a highly centralised rule system will satisfy only the ruling core and proprtional to the distance from the Hegemon's core discrepancies grow bigger and bigger. The Hegemon for a long time does not recognise this, as the core satisfaction stays relatively satisfactory, and the peripheries are bound by force anyway and as colonies have little say/feedback mechanisms. Ultimately though, the internal policy discrepancies and the failing ability to further tangible prosperity in the periphery and colonies in general becomes starkly noticeable. Add one more ingredient: an alternative system. When you have an alternative collaboration model, then nations have a choice. That model is the Ricardo based BRICS model. An open collaboration platform limited only by UN law and structured by technical trade mechanisms. What a country believes in, what values it has, how it develops itself and organises itself is left to the sovereign nation. Only the external collaboration and transaction adherence is relevant, and the added value a country brings to the table based on its comparative advantage. However, one more component is needed for the old empire to disintegrate: a protector. The new model like any other model must be protected by a kind of a bouncer. Russia is that protector of BRICS. When countries make their choice for BRICS then they must be able to get protection at least for the transitory time. And that protector is Russia - the Bear! This is why Syria was so important: Putin demonstrated that Russia will defend its partners against the empire- and it can! So its is 3 factors that lead to the demise of an old system: internal tension from contradictions (created by divergence from reality(Wokeness, Kosovo, Palestine, ICC etc) and centralization (Hegemony) an external alternative (BRICS) and a secured transition to the new model (Russia, Syria, SMO victory against the empire) This is how the Soviet Communist Model disintegrated and this is how the European imperial model disintegrates now

I don’t remember him specifying Russia will retaliate with nuclear weapons. Any military target, including ones in wests own countries, are legitimate targets. I assume nuclear drills are to show he’s serious as well as in expectancy of west going down that path.
