I am too young to have seen Niki Lauda race, but like many I grew up watching him as a commentator at Formula 1 races on German TV. So you could be tricked into believing he was just this grumpy old man with half a face. Laudas accident (which was completely a technical failure amplified by the wet surface) shook F1 to its core. They never raced on the Nürburgring Nordschleife again, but started using the brand new Nürburgring GP course in '84. Some safety equipment got introduced after the crash, like fireproof balaclavas. His comeback is one of THE greatest stories F1 ever produced…

05:30 The old Nurburgring track was 28 kilometres long, while most other circuits are 3-7 kilometres. Given the length of Nurburgring and the very few numver of marshals to cover the entirety of the circuit Niki had to spend a few moments in fire more than he would have had to in some other circuit in case of a similar accident.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife used for the 1976 German Grand Prix was 22km long. That made it difficult to have enough fire marshals around the track, and why it took so long to get the fire extinguishers to the crash site. It was 42 days between Lauda's crash in Germany and race day in Italy where Lauda finished 4th.

Two aditionaly things about Nikki: he didn't keep his trophies. He gave them away. (not later in his life, right after getting home, some he didn't even bring home. He never cared for trophies). And second: When he got his first airline, he piloted planes himself on normal flights. So you could actually unknowingly enter the plane and when the captain was speaking it could turn out to be him. (And he cleaned the cockpit himself. After getting asked he said: if i demand it from my pilots i have to do it myself too.)

Today pit stop in Formula 1 record time is 1.82s. Made by Red Bull team during GP Brazil 2019. Yes, they have changed tyres in less than 2 seconds. Also today every tenth of second matter. Sometimes even 0.001 but still very rarely. Niki Lauda passed away in 2019 right before GP Monako race. Mercedes F1 Team to honour him has left a red star on every race car engine coverage. (allegory for Niki's red cap, he wore this cap his entire life). Niki Lauda had a huge respect from entire F1 paddock. He helped to build one of the biggest F1 team, Mercedes wchich won 7 times in a row consectutive championships. History has been made. Also he helped to increase safety in F1. A scene with a "shitbox" became popular meme, especially during 2020 season, when Ferrari produced really bad car, SF-1000. What is most interesting, Niki Lauda said, this film is actually 80% accurate to what happened. I really recommend to watch Le Mans 66 (Ford vs Ferrari) movie. You will enjoy it a lot. Based on true story also. Less accurate, but well done.

Really great movie and great to see you ladies enjoying it. Fun Fact: The footage of the accident on the TV that Hunt is watching, is not the footage of the accident we saw in the first instance. The footage of the crash in the movie, was shot for the movie. The footage on the TV in the garage Hunt watches, is the ACTUAL REAL CRASH, it was actually caught on film, and Ron Howard so faithfully created it in the movie that it plays almost exactly as it happened that day. For anyone interested, they can watch the real crash here on KZbin. Also, the driver decapitated, was Austrian driver Helmuth Koinigg, it was not embellishment for Hollywood. In 1974, at Watkins Glen, New York, during the US Grand Prix weekend, his car penetrated the armco barrier, the bottom barrier got crushed down, the middle one broke, and his car speared through, but the top barrier did not give or crumple, and he hit it right at head level. Sadly, that was the consequence. It was truly a crazy era in racing, with a tragically high attrition rate. Post War right through until the 90s was, actually, in F1.

This was why they stopped F1 racing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The risks were too great and it was too hard to get a fire crew out to accidents fast enough.
@thomasnieswandt88059 ай бұрын
Nope it wasnt. During the 1960s Jackie Stewart started his safty campagne. When his best friend Jochen Rindt (f1 only posthums Champion) died in 1970, Stewart and other drivers began to boycot races "until they will improve safety" so because of that, tracks like old Spa and the Nürburgring disapeared from the race-calender to undergo massive safety improvments. The Nürburgring was renovated from 1971 to 1973. The FIA looked at it and handed them a 3 year contract. However, after the first race in 1974, it was clear, the Ring wasnt safe at all, so already in 1974 it was clear, that 1976 would be the last F1 race on the Nordschleife. Same happend to Spa. Old Spa was 28km long, they shortend it to 14km but it dint help, only when they came up with the 7km we know today, it was allowed back in.

Onefrom a poor surburb in London the other grow up in Monaco and be the son of a world champion. Two very different social origin bu they are the same passion? They know each other when they were 15 and become quicly the best friends in the world. Go in holidays together. Progress their levels and win the inferiors categories. Become the both World champion in Formula 2 and few years later world champion of Formula 1 in the same team. But the two brothers become two revals. But the movie i waiting the most it's a movie about the 2 biggest rivals in Formula 1 of the history : Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna (The professor and the magician). I want a movie about their story, the begingning of their career, their friendship, and when they become rivals start to hate each others, becoe world champions several times, and become friens again when Prost stop his career, until the death of Senna. (With Season 1985, Japan 89 and 90, Brasil 91, Australia 93 and Imola 94).
