No criticism on your sound which is great, but if you listen to all of Geddy's Ashly SC-40 songs if you can get bass tracks, you'll quickly realize he doesn't have much drive in it at all, it is more mid range and treble, But as always, sounds killer! Keep it up man!

@@JoeTritschler it's gain, it's the stainless rotos, it's how he hammers the strings like a mad man, it's just how ricks sound when you set them up right. They really bite and sound hearty. Your pro steels have a nice biting tone too so that helps it sound a bit more aggressive. I'm trying them on a Warwick streamer right now and I'm liking that aggressive attack they have. Another thing is I really like the Ashley EQ circuit. It's honestly what sans amps try to be but most can't quite get. You scored with that thing. Every bass I've heard you play through it just sounds a bit nicer. Just my personal taste but I definitely see why Geddy used those when he did.

Curious in person do you prefer the sound of the older Ashley preamp over the more modern Tech21/Sansamp Geddy signature preamps/pedals ? What about the natural gain of an older tube bass head overdriven like Lemmy and his Marshall ? Or a older hiwatt? Getting a good distorted bass tone that sounds great in person and live has been a long time never ending search of mine. Tried the Peter Steele older boss distortion pedal, the original Cliff Burton Morley distortion Wah pedal, I’ve have an old Acoustic 360 head like Jaco’s and been searching down an old Pearce BC preamp like Billy Sheehan. You have such amazing gear curious your personal opinion on the best gain or distortion for bass ?
@JoeTritschler Жыл бұрын
Great question and thank you for reaching out! For live applications, I would most definitely use the Tech 21 gear over the Ashly units due to how easy they are to use and dial in. For recording, the Ashly’s are amazing for sure. Running through a tube amp of any kind live paired with a Sansamp is my favorite way to do things. Thanks again and hope this helps!

Awesome playing and tone. Can you explain a little how you set up the Ashly's with Ric-O-Sound? I'm assuming the bridge is being distorted and the neck clean? How are you EQ'ing each one?
@JoeTritschler6 ай бұрын
Thank you! That is exactly how I do it. I also compress the bridge pickup quite heavily and let the neck have a reggae boomy sound. Together, they form something incredible

@@JoeTritschler awesome thank you! I sold my Ric years ago bc it was so shoddily built and the paint was falling off, but videos like these make me want another one.
