@@TitanBP I am pretty sure it was Permanent Waves. Willing to be corrected. I think they had an album in mind tentatively to be called Sir Gwain, but nothing clicked. They dropped the big epic type format as in the previous four albums for shorter, tighter songs, maybe more approachable, even radio friendly. That was a growing trend then as well beyond Rush. I think it was Alex, or maybe Niel, who mentioned PW was fun to make. Maybe both at one time or another.

Luke 21:25-26; There will appear signs in the sun, moon, and stars; and on Earth, nations will be in anxiety and bewilderment at the sound and surge of the sea, as people [Men] faint with fear at the prospect of what is overtaking the world; for The Powers in heaven will be shaken. Hi, I agree. There's something about Neil's passing that still brings tears to my eyes. We've had ALOT of great one's pass the past few years. But something about Neil's death is soooo very personal....
@nomad15173 ай бұрын
@@jtm2763 I think that's because very few artists connect personally to one's life. Neil was very aware of life, and how things worked. Very enlightened. No ego. Just a man who mastered his craft. His lyrics were extremely well written. He lived through some horrible events and found peace, I think think that makes him look authentic and not like royalty. Rush never had that pop star icon image, they were true musicians. He added emotion with his drums, not just a beat. Rush were a band of brothers and friends, not just a band out for fame and fortune. Rush was a band that made it big the right way. Very rare.

I as a drummer and lyricist was so excited to have had the opportunity to play this song with the first band I was in for my high school talent show back in February 2020, right before COVID entered the fold. It was the first song we ever played live as a recording, performing band. We were between 16 and 18 years old at the time, the five of us. I'm almost 20 now, but even still, after listening to this song for over 10 years (my dad got me hooked on Rush at an early age), I listen today and I'm still just as blown away by the genius of Rush and their sense of feel, texture, innovation and creativity as I was when I first heard this several years ago. I can only hope that the music I write today comes even close to representing my appreciation for Rush, this song and Progressive music. Not many people in my age demographic listen to Prog, let alone even know what it is, but I do have a guitarist friend who loves this music as well and who I met in high school, as well as a buddy we both know who plays Keyboards, and we want to fill out the rest of our line-up. Rush, Saga, Dream Theater and Symphony X among countless others are who we look up to. I don't mean to self-promo, but I just want to share how many areas of the world these guys (Rush) have touched, and in several ways. 🙏 Love from Toronto, Canada 👋🇨🇦

I remember bringing this album home for the first time. I had heard both Spirit and Freewill on the radio, so I was familiar with those tunes. Then this came on. The end of side one. Wow, what a way to end it. Side two was just a flip away, and I had no idea what I was in for...

Amazing how much there ahead of time with there music! I just wish I could live until 2112 just to listen to Rush! I can almost guarantee it will be right in time?

Love the Metallic, prog edge of this era of Rush.

It's a toss-up between this LP and Hemispheres for my favourite Rush album. I love this song especially the keyboard starting at 3:45 -- very Kraftwerk-ish!

Crazy to think this is only three guys that made this.

I like to pretend Kings, Hemis, and Waves are one single epic album. They just flow so well together.

I was 15 years old when this LP came out. One of the first albums I ever purchased when I joined Columbia House and RCA Music Club. I grew to appreciate Rush in the decades since, but "Permanent Waves" got me into them. "Spirit Of Radio" was the first track I heard from them.
