Same. I've gone months without crying at his passing. Tthen you mentioned this. Damn. He may not have been able to pretend a stranger was a long-awaited friend, but to us, we knew him better than he knew us. And we loved him anyways. Now I'm off to find paper towel.

I met Neal when I was 9 years old. He gave me his signed sticks from the test for echo tour. They are now in a shadow box in my bedroom. The mother to my children died and I was super lucky to find me a new partner that helped me raise my kids since they were toddlers. This song makes me look at those drum sticks and remember how mystic life can be and how un lucky and lucky I am. Neil was mystic and his writing encourages the brain to look beyond the box. I Love Rush RIP Neil

Unlike a lot of hardcore Rush fans I liked this period of Rush. For me there is no such thing as a traditional Rush album, these guys can do whatever the fuck they want and do it really well. That's always what I loved about this band. Power Windows blew every other new wave/synthrock album out of the water in the 80's.
@TrevRockOne

A lot of people, it would seem, are just turned off by the timbre of the 80s keyboards, which is a shame, because the material on Power Windows is some of the best they've ever done.

Mark Oldman actually I believe Mercury didn’t give them the budgets they could’ve used for making even MORE mindblowing statements! Big Money is kinda half ass just given the early digital graphics just to compete with Dire Straits ‘Money for Nothing’ if you stop & think about it... their music always had such visual elements but they RARELY got the right tumblers to CLICK as they shoulda had way more interesting videos given the 80’s being the 80’s lol

I actually remember when "Power Windows" album was premiered on our local rock station in its entirety at midnight, on the day of the album release. I remember that I was in my first year college and my buddies were all huddled near the radio in anticipation, knowing that this was going to be the first Rush album that was digitally recorded AND digitally mastered. We were blown away at the creativeness and the crispness of the sound!! "Mystic Rhythms" became on of my favorites on this album...great song and great memories!!

Working Man 17. Fly by Night 18. In the Mood 19. Drum Solo Encore: Cinderella Man I was only 14 years old and my ears have never been the same since that night. Standing less than 6ft from the stage with massive speakers on both sides watching Neil Peart destroy the drums during the song Temples of Syrinx I became a Rush fan for life. I have been playing drums most of my life and my bandmates have always called me Neil Peart because of the way he has influenced my playing. I just recently found out that we were born on the same day 12 years apart. CRAZY! Anyway back to that night. Geddy Lee still had his unibrow going on and when he came over to the right side of the stage it was kind of freaking me out because of the blue window pane acid that me and my friends had dropped earlier. The concerts were way different back in the 70s and the booze\pot etc. was flowing everywhere. Topless women were walking around everywhere and passed out drunk people were being carried out of the place, so it was a pretty wild sight. When it was over and I got back home I remember my parents were pissed off because I was high and had lost my coat. This show was truly a life changing event in my life. The RUSH album 2112 became my new favorite at that time and even influenced my first bank loan of 3K for a Top of the line Denon Intergrated Amp stereo system with monster Polk Audio 10 speakers and a Denon Rosewood turntable with moving coil cartridge. I have been ROCKING the BLOCK with this system for the last 40 years. \m/ STAY WILD \m/

Not only was Neil the greatest drummer in rock music, he was also the most innovative. This video is a clear example of that. Not only is the grove awesome but the opening scene shows his back facing the front of his drum set (something that had never been done before) because he is playing his second kit opposite side which is made up entirely of electronics (another thing that had never been done before). Plus it was on a revolving drum kit (another first). And keep in mind that his cymbals are now reversed as well and it didn't phase him one bit. He was truly a master of his craft, an innovator, and the most fun to watch. I will always miss his playing.

Personally, I very much liked Rush's synth period, some great songs came from that. I seriously don't get the haters of that period of Rush's work, it was excellent and some of their best music. And I've been a Rush fan since the first album!

I hear that brother we always remember the ones that saved our lives. Rush ,Motörhead ,Iron Maiden just to name a few. These guys were real like you and me ,they sang about true experience’s and real life events. we can relate to the sound of thundering drums, the lick of the guitar, the thumping bass guitar and deep lyrics joined by a powerful voice! that let’s us know where alive! This is where my best memories lye due to music made by great bands. So cheers 🍻 to music and memories!! (one can not exist without the other).

Like all Rush albums from Hemispheres onward, this album had what artist Paul Klee epitomised : Making the invisible visible. The luminous seers of Rock had that mystical magic which alluded to much of what was beyond superficial reality and crafted multidimensional music with deep esoteric comprehension. Always loved their music which contained the same enchantment as early to mid period Hawkwind.

I used to listen to this song in my high school years. I was suffered from harsh bullying, and all the things in the world seemed to being filled with undefinable emptiness and boredom. After back from the school in the early evening, I immediately turned on the audio, opened the window in my room, and just gazed at the red sky with my eyes half-closed, praying for someone I can’t see that he will bring some sacred lights in my busted life...this song was repeated on the background during the daily practice. I still believe someone beyond the sky was not by my imaginations, he surely must exist...

No, only '75-'82. Those were the 'great times' for Rush, no exceptions. My opinion is what matters here. I included Signals because Terry Brown still was producer and Rush, or should I say Geddy hadn't yet gone full tilt synth... at the expense of Alex's guitars. J/k on my opinion is what matters... we all like what we like. Love this tune but Power Windows was it for me... I know nothing about Rush music after 1985.

For me Rush was a battle in my mind at 12, their lyrics (spirit of the radio vs PF's the Wall) were far more profound than I could fathom. Every time I saw them in concert, I learned more about ME, the Universe and humankind. Could I now have spent that money on a Maserati, perhaps, but I treasure every moment of their music, their intelligence and their humor. We are so blessed to have had this trio in our lives.

I agree this is one of Rush's top albums for sure the crown of the synthesizer era. I don't know people are always hating on the Rush synthesizer era. I know Hold You're Fire wasn't really well received, but every band has some stinkers out there, for Rush Hold You're Fire and Caress of Steel are probably what they would consider there (2) stinker albums. Rush's management I don't think liked Hold You're Fire because after that album there music changed and they got back to harder sounding music, which there management wanted and I know Lifeson had enough of the synthesizer key board era. Geddy Lee was big on the key boards and synthesizer. However this was a good album.

Agreed, the legacy of Rush includes the greatness of all their variations. I'm 50 now, and got turned on to Rush in junior high in the late 70s. Loved their sound immediately and loved hearing them evolve and change, but somehow always remained clearly Rush. With so much variety I have never stopped craving listening to them. The only thing that keeps changing is my favorite album/era. I've never truly settled on a favorite and don't think I ever will. If I go a few months or years without listening to something from Rush, I always find myself rediscovering that something, yet again, and my enjoyment is renewed and reenergized. They just do every variation of themselves so perfectly that you can't help but appreciate all of it.
