When I was in middle school, my next door neighbor and good friend of mine was in a horrific car accident. His father died in the accident and my buddies face and part of his skull was crushed. He endured many reconstructive operations. During that time he never left his house. Did not want to be seen by anyone. He took up the drums to release his anxieties. I remember listening to him play for hours every day. He played every rush song. He became so good, that he sounded like Neil. Our band teacher sent Neil a tape of him playing and Neil was so taken by his ability and story, that he came to see him and brought him a drum set just like the one he used to record Rush records. 10k worth of drums back in the early 80’s.

Can you believe that among music journalists Niel was voted the worst rock lyricist of all time? That was like ten years ago and it still makes me so mad today. Furious. Fuck rock journalists. Also the tool comment in this thread holds true as well. Rush and tool both have very very deep lyrics. There is more to their stories than any other bands in history.

Chris Porter well if you are referring to what I’m thinking of; it was because his lyrics were too intelligent. These people believed rock lyrics were supposed to be about sex, drugs, violence etc. so I understood their reasoning, but I didn’t agree with it. But when Eddie Trunk, the number one classic rock radio personality in the country, had Neil peart as the greatest lyricist in rock history; this reflected my ideas.

Milaan Vigraham Im with you on that feeling...my kids bring tons of new music to me often....and yes it has lots of emotions and talented musicians but it's just good and I get it but your right there isn't anything as great as Rush. They bring super high emotion with the highest of highs in musical instrument ability matching the high emotions of thought provocative lyrics that keep your mind simply open to all ideas not just the idea of the one that you are in. So I whole heartedly agree with you in the respect that there isn't any music as "great" as Rush is, but that's really not fair to any other group to compare them to the greatest band of all time hand's down. Rush's 'Subdivisions', Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing' and The Police's 'Synchronicity II' are all the education you need on the expression of suburban angst. I love comparing the lyrics and the instrumentals. All three do an excellent job of portraying the suburbs as a place to flee. Rush even carries threads of the same theme in other songs as well. These lyrics hold true today ....I think of the shooter in Santa Barbara...and people on social media ...CONFORM OR BE CAST OUT !!! Our society is so messed up !!!

I was thinking about this too. The lyrics of the song describes the reality of our society. "Opinions all provided, the future pre-decided".

Exactly Social media is definitely like high school all over again. Such a waste of time and mind.

Thoughts on this ? ,, I feel it touches on the many layered aspect roots of "Tribalism" and the value of the "dreamers" voice .

Wouldn't that be more like conform or shoot everybody in sight?

I am 38. With brothers 7 and 10 years older. I remember this blasting when I was young. And now I blast it for my son. Brought up with heart and good taste. Passing that on.

Born in 02. Dad showed me all the good stuff. Grew up on Zeppelin and the Beatles. Dad's music taste went to shit, so now I'm on my own, in music terms.

+Stacey Hager your not a rush fan but you like this song? have you heard other rush songs? they got 20 albums filled with songs as brilliant as this more brilliant.
@staceyhager46048 жыл бұрын
Oh I've heard Rush songs. Our local radio station plays so much Rush that instead of calling the station by it's name, Rock 105, a lot of people know it as "Rush 105"

The self appointed 'in crowd' cannot separate their restless dreams from the dreams of people they dismiss and outcast for whatever reason. We all have a common bond of dignity which we should nourish and not allow our capitalistic society to disrespectfully subdivide us or quell our individual expressive spirit and creativity. Love Rush. The professor and insightful lyracist has passed.💔 Rest in peace Neil Peart

I don't dislike Journey or anything. But to be honest💯, Don't stop believing is nothing matched up with the outstanding works of Rush. No offense, I just feel like Rush is rock n roll, Journey is more like pop.
@ogjrock60788 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Bruss journey was considered alternative and pop just means popular so technically rush is pop
@kyleb26918 жыл бұрын
+Og Jrock I disagree. Journey is pop. Alternative is more like green day or eve6 or like 90s stuff. I feel like Rush belongs more in the rock n roll category. they aren't completely well known yet they aren't going away. Then again, I guess it's all open to interpretation. By today's standards, there both probably considered "pop" but honestly, they both deserve a better description than the likes of Bieber, Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Or whatever garbage is currently being marketed to younger audiences just to make a quick dollar. Sorry if I offended anyone, that's just my honest opinion.
