Underrated lyricist? He is hated, he is not underrated. Certain folks hate his message, hate his displaying them in a bad light. People just want to be people, people just want to be the second handers of Ayn Rand, so they hate Peart and his lyrics.

Like do you even know how many christians are in the world? This very song is calling the self sacrificing Jesus someone who set a bad example... So the indifference they show to Peart's lyrics is an expression of their hate.

@@u.v.s.5583 this song has literally nothing to do with jesus or religion. "Christ, what have you done?" Is not meant in the literal sense of Christ himself, but a common expression.

@@entelechy2020 No it isn't. Peart is not that weak. Someone showed a bad example, made failure seem allright, Christ, what have you done!? There is no place for a different interpretation. This week was a mess. Family medical issues that went from good to bad in an instant. I came home Wednesday, put on my Rush shirt, crawled into bed and haven't taken it off. From Wednesday things felt like they getting more out of control. I woke up from a nap Friday afternoon, sat on the end of the bed and felt like I was in the Twilight zone. Everything was so out of whack. I felt like I was going crazy. I considered calling my therapist. I picked up my phone, it buzzed letting me know I had messages...….There it was, Neil Peart had died. It all made sense now why the cosmic forces were so out of line. What does it feel like, leading up to grief touching the planet from one side to the other, top to bottom? Im now struggling to regain my balance. The world lost a true treasure. He was an artist with a gift so rare, the ability to unify people rich or poor, any race, gender, religion, sexual orientation simply by saying his name. That's what we do. We keep saying his name. Its how we move on from this.

I never paid particular attention to this song, until I just stumbled on it and read the comments and realized how deep the lyrics are. My brother and I’s friend shot himself to death at 30 years old and none of us can figure out why, and hearing these lyrics and thinking about him must made me bawl. Sometimes it takes years to put a song lyrics to a real life situation and then the song takes on a new life, after 25 years. Rush will do that.

Our 7th Grade Junior High Band photo helped “get the girl”, my wearing a Rush T-Shirt, she swears it was “Journey. That following year, (2/24/82) I’m in 8th Grade, her in 9th. A friend of hers mentioned that she was asking about me, GIVING A NERDY BMX’r/BAND PHA-G the confidence to approach her, A 9TH GRADER, to: “Go Out With Me?” She said “YESS!” Married since 1992, attributing “Pratt, Lerxst & Dirk’s” melodical inspired, “those of us that were on the outside, shall get-in”, IMHO, high school being akin to “a diamond that gets flipped post graduation, (not sure who coined that, plus I’m paraphrasing)”. LMAO recalling ALL OF US AIR DRUMMERS livin the dream watching our most gifted three dorkmen perform-as WE did the same-for them! Mountains Moved for a few of us knowing what was before us. A part of me really hopes Neil was tipped off, took heed and slipped away before all the SHTF in 2020. These three worthy of the overused word: “AMAZING”. We all had fun. “Counterparts”, “Test for Echo” & “Vapor Trails”, arguably my favorites, “The Garden”, giving me pause the first time I heard it, I find myself moving on to the next song-unable to describe what these guys were saying since day one 1. My lifelong support of Scion, (😉) obliterated two OKtobers-A_Go. Fist pumping Geddy after he signed his Big Book Of Bass in 2019, knowing what his brother had been suffering with and WHAT WAS TO COME. The “INSIDE” of all things. I was also dating a woman who had the same emotional illness that I have. I got mine from PTSD in the military, she got hers during her adolescence/hormone changes while developing and growing up. We met in college during our 20s and it didn't work, we split amicably. She lost her fight against it on Christmas Eve 2016. She never was a RUSH fan but I wish she heard this song. Now the memories and the horrors of upcoming trump dictatorshit (which I served during the 80s so it WOULDN'T happen, but it did!) and all this - it cuts my guts and brings tears to my eyes. Miss you Neil. Hard to believe your gone. This song and album bring me back. Listened to this album, volume at 11, every morning getting ready for middle school.

18 years ago my best friend took his own life. When I heard the news I played this song loud. It still makes me think of him.

Surely a highlight from "Presto", an album that isn't too represented in the later live shows... I liked it less thna the great "Hold Your Fire" but still, it's very good. The 80's are my favourite era of Rush, anyway.

People always rate Presto low on lists, but lyrically and vocally an absolute classic. One of my favorite Rush albums ever. The Pass is true greatness.

Like others in this thread, this song save my life, since it got me through a deep wave of depression while I was in college.

In all the facets of a great song, this one has all of them. How the words made it to paper in the first place? IDK? Genius. RIP Neil.
