Freewill was more well rehearsed because they had been together over 10 years when this was done. 2112 had only been together a little over a year and had only played 9 shows. This was what the producers were looking for - 1 band that was just starting out and 1 band that had been doing it a long time. This is also why 2112 went to NY instead of Freewill.

It's most definitely "Pee-rt". I met Neil backstage at the Burning For Buddy tribute, and asked him that specific question. He stated that it pronounced PEE-RT.

@XMitsuhideX IT IS NOT PRONOUNCED PURT, REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH COOLER IT SOUNDS.

A Rush tribute band should NOT have a front man. It should be a trio.

Speaking as someone who's been in various tribute bands in the past including a RUSH tribute band my advice to other musicians young and old; don't do it. Tribute bands are painfully embarrassing. Be yourself, write your own music or just play a varied set of classic rock for fun. In recreating the music of Rush (or any other band for that matter), players rarely sound anything like the original artist/s when they're trying to play and sound EXACTLY like them. Especially the vocals. God, thinking back on my own experiences, if I had to do it all over again I would've applied my energies in being in an original group with original music of my creation.

@XMitsuhideX It's pronounced "Piert" just like she said. I have his instructional video "A Work In Progress" and that's how he pronounces his name when he introduces himself.

No, it's actually pronounced "Pee-rt", not "Purt". Most get it wrong, but Neil himself says "Pee-rt".
