This is where it all began for Rush. I remember when they started playing it on the Buzzard in Cleveland. That was when we actually listened to the radio. When there was DJ's and radio stations. I miss those days.

In the mid-`970s, EVERY garage band played this song! It was one of the songs that turned people with even the slightest bit of musical interest and talent on to Rush. Then Fly by Night and Caress of Steel (an album that doesn't get anywhere the respect it deserves,) and finally 2112 that cemented Rush in the hearts of anyone who played, or wanted to play an instrument.

This is very early Rush. That is John Rutsey on Drums. Just about a year or so later Neil Peart joined and they remained in the lineup of....Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart until they called it quits after 40 plus years. Alex Lifeson and Geddy actually started in school in around 1967 ish, Rutsey was there about '68ish, Peart who is the final drummer "with all those drums" joined in 1974. That is when Rush's sound slowly started to change and Peart would take over for the lyrics. His lyrics, are really some of the most intelligent lyrics in all of Rock. Personally, I would visit their 1981 concert in Montreal. Some good moments you can react to are The Trees & Xanadu kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYqUlYSml5qGpbs Peart talks in that particular clip for a moment

@nthdegree12694 жыл бұрын
@@neillenet291 There was nothing wrong with John, he had to leave the band for health reasons. They were fated to be with Peart though and that is where it went. Its sort of like Zeppelin and Terry Reid. Although, Terry Reid never joined the band (Jimmy Page wanted him) Reid decided to suggest Robert Plant. In the U.K, Terry Reid was above any other vocalist. He turned that gig down and he was also offered a Deep Purple job, he turned it down. The rest is history. The Beatles with Pete Best. Its very interesting to go over these past events and wonder "what if"...

Yup Ms ScribeCash, as @Steve Bass aludes, this was the song which propelled then into mainstream when it was played on Radio station WMMS. Kinda randomly chosen at the outset because it was long enough to allow the DJ to go for a bathroom break (no kidding). With Cleveland being an industrial city the folks identified with the lyrics and it became a favourite. Congrats on 20K, and keep up the good work lass...

It's always a joy to hear this song! This is the one that got them onto the music scene. A radio station in Detroit put it on because it was long and the DJ could step away for a few minutes, and everyone started calling in wanting to know who the group was. They built up a following in Detroit, the studios noticed, and they went on for another 40 years! It was bittersweet seeing them in that last concert when they ended with this song. Sweet because it's one of their classics. Bitter because it was the last song of their last tour.

Hello! I have liked and subscribed! Rush has been my favorite band since about 1984. I saw Rush in concert many times. When I was in high school, I asked my friend if he wanted to go to the Rush concert. He asked if they were going to play By-Tor and the Snow Dog and Cygnus X-1. I said that they would probably not play those songs, so he didn't want to go. That was 1988. Years later in 2004, I saw Rush and they played those two songs back to back! So if you are taking requests, a reaction to By-Tor and the Snow Dog (1975) or Cygnus X-1 (1977) would be awesome. Love your videos!
