Alright, I'm not usually one to address negative comments, but I have to speak up for Cullen with the incredible amount of judgement that's going on in the comments of this vlog. When he left for the game with Gaines, my parents, and our friends Ron & Jenny (who I should mention is a pediatric ER nurse who had been discussing Brooks' condition with me throughout the day), Brooks wasn't feeling well but his breathing had improved and wasn't terrible by any means. With all of the adults mentioned above (including my dad, who is a physician) who assessed the situation, we made the decision that I would stay back and get Brooks in a good steamy shower and then put him to bed. Cullen and my mom both told me multiple times that they wanted to stay back with Brooks and me. I told them NO and insisted that they all go to the game. There was nothing anybody else needed to cancel their plans for at the time, and if I needed someone they were literally a couple of blocks away and could be to us within minutes. During his bath, Brooks' breathing got worse and by the time I got his PJs on him, I decided I needed to take him in for treatment. I called Cullen and he asked what he could do and if I needed him to come. I SAID NO and insisted he stay at the game with Gaines and just keep things as normal as possible for her and the rest of the family. I was sending him (and my parents, and Jenny) updates as things happened at the clinic and they knew Brooks was stable and improving with treatment. There was NO REASON for Cullen to cause more chaos, panic, and stress for everyone involved when I was perfectly capable of caring for my son in that situation. There was NO REASON he shouldn't have had fun and enjoyed being with our daughter and family and friends. Was he worried? YES! Does that mean he shouldn't smile, laugh, or talk to other people while at the game? NO! If people in the comments could stop giving him grief, I would really appreciate it. Brooks got the treatment he needed when he needed it, and Gaines was able to continue her night as planned without any worry of why her dad had to urgently leave the game while she stayed back with her grandparents. Cullen is an amazing father and it is hurting my heart to see all these negative comments about how negligent and wrong he was in this situation. I know, I know, I KNOW that everyone is entitled to their opinion and welcome to comment whatever they like...and so am I. I know these facts I've stated won't change some people's opinions, but I just can't continue reading comments about how terrible Cullen is when I know how amazing of a father he is to our kids! To those of you who have left positive and supportive comments, THANK YOU! You don't know how much it means to us to have love, prayers, and kind words from so many caring and compassionate people. ❤️ -Katie

Cullen & Katie I swear half of these people aren't parents! Us moms & dads know what works for OUR family, it may not work for others but that's no one else's business. I didn't find anything weird about the situation. Some people just have way too much time in their lives to over think EVERYTHING 🙄🙈

Katie, I am your mom's age, so I have been through all of this with my boys, who are men now. As a mom you just know when to take a sick one in, I am so glad you knew he needed to be seen. You and Cullen are so down to earth and practical, having him and your parents go to the game was the right thing to do. If anyone has been a regular watcher of your vlogs, it is so apparent what a caring and unselfish husband and father Cullen is. You are both so giving and such good people, as we say in the south. Don't let these negative comments get to you.

Side note this is a college town before anything and if you are in the ER (I know, I went to UA and worked at the clinic) most are drunk, crude, and overall not what you want your children around. Infested with germs and separating is the best case. I am also a parent of two small children and I wouldn’t have done anything different then what they did. More people in a situation just add more chaos and anxiety for the sick child. I am so glad everyone here is the perfect parent! I applaud Katie and Cullen for doing what is best for their family. And to say she should have stayed with the grandparents it’s not their job. Stay behind your keyboard with your negativity. ROLL TIDE

I couldn't agree with you more +Meagan Martin! Finally, the voice of reason!!! People are so quick to judge. Walk a mile, folks... walk a mile! They did everything right - I would have done the exact same thing for the exact same reasons. I've worked in Trauma Centres and ERs for years and I always, always think "I sure wish you had someone to look after your other child instead of having to bring them" and you are right again with it not being the grandparents responsibility. Cullen did everything he should/could have done and Katie made the right calls.

Watching babies/toddlers going through croup and bronchial issues is a difficult thing to witness. You are both solid people who are surrounded by solid people, I can't even imagine being critical about any of this. Shake it off don't let the negativity hurt your heart, easier said then done, sit back have a glass of wine and laugh over the arrogance of those petty comments.

Good job taking Brooks in when you did! Breathing issues are the scariest! Zeke was a few days under 1 when he had his first breathing issues and had to stay 2 nights in the hospital. He was diagnosed with asthma when he turned 2. Praying Gaines doesn’t catch croup. We just had Halle at the ER for it, since it was the worst case we have seen in our kids and her body was working over time, caving in with every breath. We’ve had sleepless nights spent in steam showers with kids, but that was the first ER for croup. Praying for lots of rest and health for all of you!
@meganm36227 жыл бұрын
Welcome to 2017, where everyone has plenty of judgment to pass on good parents who might do it a little bit differently than you! I was a middle child that was constantly sick with asthma and the croup until I was a teenager. My parents took turns taking me to doctor's offices and the e.r. if it wasn't something life-threatening, because my siblings needed time and attention too. If it was truly serious, Brooks would have been admitted to the hospital. It gets old seeing people telling other ppl how to live and raise their kids. I think Katie is totally capable of taking Brooks to the dr alone, and I think it's great that Cullen took Gaines to the game and made a memory with her. Maybe we should cut them a little slack and save the criticism for bad parents?

I am going to agree with Katie 100% on this. I see where everyone is coming from, however sometimes it was probably best that it was just Katie and Brooks, more people = more chaos and Brooks needed to be as relaxed as he possibly could be. The one thing I would may agree with is taking him earlier and skipping the parade BUT y’all have to remember too Katie knows ALOT and her dads a Dr. They did the right thing for Brooks. Praying for ya little baby Brooks im sure you’re a lot better by now. Much love from TX.

I am so glad Brooks is feeling better! When he was doing the breathing treatment it brought back so many memories of my daughter. When she was 3 weeks old she got RSV and pneumonia, and she almost died because she couldn't breath. At one point she was turning blue. When she was finally able to come home I gave her breathing treatment every night for 4 months and then everytime she got sick for the first year which was at least once a month. It is not only hard on them its also hard on the parents. I am praying for you all and happy that Cullen took Gaines to have fun that way Brooks could be taken care of. Love you all!

Katie you are an amazing mama to your children. Cullen you are an amazing dada to your children. Forget what others say and know the truth that y'all are just what your children need when they need it!! Also everyone is too busy hating to see the pure joy and excitement on Gains face at the game especially when she saw Big Al!! Nothing but love and respect for y'all!

If you are fortunate enough to have a mother and father in the home with children you often aquire the skill of dividing and conquering. This is exactly what they did. They kept everything normal and consistent for Gaines to watch the game with family and with Cullen. They mutually agreed Katie would take Brooks to the hospital and if she wanted Cullen to come then she would of asked but she wanted to keep everything normal for Gaines...I get it! Why add more flames to the fire if Katie can perfectly handle Brooks and take him to get care. I would of done this hands down because as a mother you put your family first and learn how to handle. Love you Katie! Love you Cullen thanks for being so amazing to Gaines, Brooks and Katie. Just from the short clips we see you are such an amazing father, son, husband to everyone that has the pleasure of knowing you. Keep your head up and keep grinding! Maria

You guys are totally living my life when my son turned one! As soon as he turned one he was sick all the time. I just kept telling myself at least he’s building his immune system! Unfortunately my son has seizures when he gets fevers 🙁 I hope Brooks feels better soon! Great job both of you taking care of Brooks and making sure Gaines wasn’t stressed about it. ❤️❤️❤️

Divide and conquer!! That’s what parents of 2+ children have to do! Way to go Cullen for being a great Dad and keeping Gaines entertained at the game! Way to go Katie for taking Brooks in when his condition worsened and providing love and comfort for him! You are doing a great job... I’m sorry for the judgmental people who think they could do it better.

God bless him. My daughter had to do the nebulizer every year until she was 9. She always got bronchitis or prebronchitis. She was 2 weeks premature. The doctor gave us our own nebulizer to keep and medicine. She still uses a albuterol inhaler when she does a lot of running. So glad Brooks is better! ❤️

Watching Brooks in the beginning of the vlog with you and Cullen on the couch it broke my heart seeing him like that. You guys are amazing parents and did what you needed to do for both of your kids. Praying Brooks is feeling better and that Gaines isn’t getting sick. I love watching you guys and I know it was hard for Cullen to not be there for you and Brooks but I’m glad he got to stay and be there for Gaines. 🐘🏈❤️

This broke my heart with Brooks! I have asthma and I'm also susceptible to bronchitis. He sounded like me when I'm sick or have an asthma attack. I'm glad Cullen and Gaines seemed to have a good time. Congrats on the Bama win! Praying that Brooks to feel better!

Invest in a Nebulizer at home. I was a babysitter for 11 years and in every family I was at, they had one. It helped with coughs, nose issues, 1 child had asthma and every cold was so bad for her. You can use it with medicine but also with saline or sterilized water. We usually did like 10 or so minutes before bed time or during/before/after a cough attack and it helped a lot. Sometimes, yes, they fell asleep while on it and watching TV. Something about the steady white noise like sound. Also, when the kiddo had a stuffy nose we opened that up as much as we could (sea salt water, that suck out thing) and then did the Nebulizer and then put the kid on a tilted surface to sleep (usually I put a pillow or two under the mattress) and they slept a lot better. If things were really bad I actually used the Nebulizer while they slept. I hope Brooks gets better soon. And Gaines was just tired.
