As always, one of the few musicians who reveals the secrets of music. Thank you! I think your chords already take into account that, for example, there are no parallel fifths or octaves and that helps them sound so good.

Another great lesson. Also a great ear training to learn the sounds of the tone being used, also the emotional feel to the resulting chords. Then can mix and match by what feel you want the melody to take at what points. Then your last comments about the chords, voicings and voicing leading (reading between the lines). I remember back in music school we talked about things like that and how no matter what level a listener is their ears hear this and recognize what's going on even if our brains still haven't quite got it. This is where listening to soundtracks can be cool to hear the usually simple melody the composer starts with and how using reharm techniques and make it work for whatever emotion on screen. Thanks for making these videos!
@ruslanpiano6 жыл бұрын
Toortog Pown Absolutely correct. This also makes your ear learn the sound of #11, or 9, or 7, just like you said. And yes, film scoring composers do a lot of cool stuff because the melodies really are often simple, and they have to be developed, re-contextualized and reharmonized. And people feel it, even if they don’t theoretically understand it.

Works with guitar too . I use less notes but the principle works very well. awesome results. Nice colors . Thanks

Awesome video. I love using this constant structure concept where the melody note is the ninth of a minor eleventh chord. There are so many possibilities when using “vertical harmony”, it’s also a great way to find new chords.

Am revisiting a year on. What you said about finding the chords which sit under the melody note for the specific tension is really helpful because it can be difficult to come up with voicings on the fly. I admire those skilled and knowledgeable pianists who can do this quickly. Am definitely going to revisit my theory to help with this process. Thanks again !

Well, dang! I have always admired players who can reaharm tunes, and finally (!) here's a way to do it. Wonder if there''s some kind of device, maybe like a wheel that identifies the role of each note in any given chord. That would be the final piece of the puzzle. If you know of such a thing (maybe even an app), I would really appreciate it. BTW, I'm a guitar player.
