RIP, Russ "Professor" Johnson A little known fact was that the original theme song for the show that ended with "and the rest" was changed at the strong insistence of Bob Denver (Gilligan), who made it clear that he wanted the Professor and Maryanne in the song. The producers made the change. It shows the magnanimity from Bob that's really quite touching.

What a class act. Says nice things about everyone, with not a harsh word even for Tina Louise, who is well known for being aloof to her time on the show. Also a WWII hero shot down in the Pacific and wounded. A life well lived, and sad to see him go. One of the last from the true golden age of TV.

Ginger: "But professor, haven't you ever taken a girl to a drive-in movie before?" Professor: " Yes i have. But the curvature of the screen and the fidelity of the sound, made it impossible to enjoy the picture"........LMAO.

I was just lamenting how no one shows reruns of 'Gilligan's Island', anymore, and Bam!, Mister Russel Johnson passes and now TV Land has been showing reruns almost daily. I pursued a love of science, due, in part, to The Professor saving the day with science and his MacGiver like skills with bamboo and coconut shells. You made a difference in my life, Russel 'Professor' Johnson!!

Little known fact: When offered the role of the professor, Russell Johnson accepted under one condition. He insisted that whenever his character's expertise was enlisted as a professor of science, the science itself had to be sound. Johnson was concerned that young viewers not be misled with erroneous representations of known scientific fact.

Alan Hale loved being the Skipper. He wore that hat as much as he could. He loved being recognized. He was part owner of a restaurant and was often there. Ans although not many Gilligan fans knew about his father his eyes would light up when asked about him.

I know it was just a simple sitcom so not a real point of over-thinking it but why would the Howell's with all their money "rough it" by going on a 3-hour tour with the rest of the Castaways? You'd think they'd have had their own super yacht. Oh well. LOL
