This is one of the kindest comments I have ever read, and it must have been a great encouragement to the very gifted Russell Watson. I have only recently become acquainted with this great singer, but immediately bought 3 CDs after hearing "Someone To Remember Me." That song caused me to relive the Memorial Service for my son I lost two years ago. What a blessing. I, too, owe Russell Watson a great debt for all his amazing music that is soothing to a shattered heart.

Beautiful voice... regardless of what everyone is saying. Best example of cross over singing in my opinion. Watson does not have any formal training in Opera and yet he sounds a lot better than most Trained Opera Tenors, even those that speaks fluent Italian. This guy has an amazing story.

I totally agree with Richard. My mom used to tell me, "It's easier for some people to tear others down than to build themselves up." Watson is a truly amazing and wonderfully talented musician/performer. How lucky we are indeed to have him amongst us. May he live a long and wonderful life.

It's interesting how many people have no tolerance for an amazing talent like Russell to take a song and put a new spin on it. He is slammed for not being a true opera singer by people who cannot see the forest for the tress. Who gives a s__t?! Russell is a huge talent and no one touches his eclecticism. My favorite singer hands down!

WELL STATED! ANYONE WHO DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THIS MAN HAS MASTERED SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CRAFT, WHICH TAKES A LOT OF WORK, PRACTICE, TIME, EFFORT, ENERGY (WHEN ONE MIGHT BE SO VERY TIRED, SINGERS KEEP GOING THAT EXTRA MILE FOR THEIR AUDIENCE). I LOVE THIS MAN'S VOICE AND HIS DEMEANOR. HE WENT THROUGH TWO MAJOR BRAIN SURGERIES, ROUNDS OF SUFFERING IN TREATMENT AND HE IS STILL ON MEDICINES, THAT GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT THE SIDE EFFECTS WILL DO TO HIS BODY. BUT HIS SPIRIT IS STILL VERY POSITIVE AND HIS VOICE IS EVEN BETTER! I LOVE LISTENING TO RUSSELL WATSON, WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM IN CONCERT! USA, VIRGINIA~~CHEERS

People need to be aware of what cross over singing is all about. Russell Watson is known for his ability to cross over in one song from pop to opera. Not a lot of singers can do that. I have heard him sing Va' Pensiero both in Italian and the English Version. This guy has an amazing voice, considering the fact that he does not have formal training in opera.

There you'll find their heroes alive protecting their innocence Bless them all, their simple soul so pure and wonderful. Va' pensiero sull'ali dorate Let this beautiful dream carry on for all night long. Arpa d'or dei fatidici vati, perché muta dal salice pendi? I actually have his album. With this song, I've listened to the changes in his voice, the modulation and control he exercises. Deaf are we? I think not. I really don't think the grand maestro is spinning in his grave over the rendition of this song. He may be spinning with joy at the recognition of his work. It's not snobbery that causes people to simply look down on different vocalists. It's a lack of appreciation and broad perspective on the qualities and ranges of the human voice.

@xxWayoftheSunxx He is NOT an opera singer. An opera singer is someone who sings IN LIVE OPERAS in opera theaters. He is a pop singer who sings operatic selections in pop way, but in no way acceptable in opera. This is a chorus by the way, not an aria. It has meaning, it's not just a pretty melody. It's sung by Hebrew slaves in Egypt. Listen to Met chorus singing it here. As to "best opera singers" - listen to Piotr Beczala, Jonas Kaufmann, Frank Lopardo, Juan-Diego Florez, Lawrence Brownlee.

I wish he would have sung the complete children's version of Verdi's Va, pensiero. Instead he uses part of Verdi's original Italian version. leaving out an important part of the children's lyrics starting at: "Lend them your golden wings......... and end ending: "Where they once use to belong". Verdi's Va, pensiero is about the plight of the Jews after Jerusalem is conquered and they are sent into exile by the Babylon king Nebuchadnezzar. Different lyrics with different meaning.

@tOnYBersekr That one is not a "version", but the ORIGINAL; and it's that way this piece HAS TO BE presented. This one sounds like the meowing of a castrated cat with a bellyache. He has no right to charge money, he can present this pap to the circle of his immediate friends. That's what karaoke is for, and this way opf singing is no more than karaoke. Gheorghij
