Russell Wilson, who is an acclaimed professional football quarterback, hails from Cincinnati, OH but spent his formative years in Richmond, VA. He was raised in a nurturing household with both parents excelling in their respective fields as a lawyer and nursing director. His grandfather was a basketball player at KSU and his father a standout athlete who played football and baseball at Dartmouth College and was a wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers-Russell's path to stardom as an athlete was seemingly predestined through his lineage.
In '08, he began his college football journey at NC State. Russell's athletic endeavors soon drew attention from the Colorado Rockies baseball team before ultimately committing to the Wisconsin Badgers football program in 2011. This pivotal decision led to his selection by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2012 NFL Draft, marking the start of an illustrious professional career.
In a historic moment in February of 2014, Russell's leadership propelled the Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl 48 against the Denver Broncos, garnering the franchise's first-ever Super Bowl title.
Throughout his career, Russell's achievements have been nothing short of remarkable. From earning nine Pro Bowl selections to being named NFL Offensive Player of the Year, he has shattered records and set new standards for excellence, even in his rookie year.
Beyond the field, Russell is revered as a man of unwavering and great faith, a devoted father, a loving husband, and an epitome of resilience. His journey serves as an inspiration to young, aspiring athletes worldwide.
We're super grateful that Russell extended his time and grace to us at I Am Athlete. We appreciate you, always!

His grandfather, Dr. Harrison B Wilson was my president while attending the great HBCU, Norfolk State University. Russell comes from such good stock! Faith-filled, honorable, gifted, humble, kind, resilient people. I remember seeing photo's of Russell in his grandfather's office. I am team Russell Wison because of his grandfather/grandmother who guided our school and his familly with integrity, love and faith...who passed on the same spirit to his son, Russell's father Harrison III and mother, Tammy... and now Russell and his siblings carry the torch of the Wilson family. Salute!

One of the things I respect most about Russell is that he is 100% okay with being misunderstood. He is not trying to be like everyone else and understands that his uniqueness is a strength. This interview had a lot of great gems from him and a bit less guarded because he was interviewed by someone he is comfortable with. I especially like when he said that he is not going to speak badly about anyone especially other black men in his position. It's a shame that same sentiment cannot be shown towards him but that is why he was made for this and built for this. I hope that he gets to have a fresh start elsewhere with a team and coach that wants him there. I really would like to see him hoist another SB trophy, and if that is what is meant to be it will be. One thing for sure, this man is a great husband and father, and I absolutely love hearing him speak about his wife and kids and raising his kids to be leaders. It's a shame how many people spend so much time ragging on him but I think that it really just boils down to pure jealousy because they do not feel that they could be half the human being that he is, or they do not want to put in the effort to be better human beings.

If you think about it resume wise he’s the 2nd best black QB ever and look at how much disrespect he gets from the media and from ppl who look like him. Wild to think about. Notice how it’s white QBs who have no rings or all pros who get more respect than Russ has his whole career in guys like Burrow/Allen etc. And most of media is trying to write him out the HOF. They will try to do the same to Lamar if he doesn’t win multiple rings as well.

@@ashergorman6212 He could have put up much better numbers this past year if it wasn't for that coward that the Broncos hired. He didn't design plays suitable for Russell's game. Russell's numbers were still awesome despite the limitations in the offense.

Awesome interview. I'm glad Russell told HIS narrative. He is a disgustingly positive dude and I mean that in a good way. Every person has a story about their journey. Sometimes, society tries to paint one picture of what the background of a black man looks like. Cool comes in different shapes, sizes and walks of life. Some hate on Russell, because of the work he has done and is doing on himself is challenging and some people aren't committed to put in that level of work. Blessings to him and his beautiful family.

Such a great and positive interview. I love that Russ doesn't allow negative people or situations to effect his mindset. I also love that although he is a positive person and tries to lead with love, he is not a fool or a pushover. Denver really mistook his kindness for weakness by asking him to remove that injury clause. I'm glad that he didn't even give it a second thought and immediately said no. He understands that him doing something like that, could and would set a precedence for all the other teams to do the same to their players.
