One meaning of the Belgorod incursion is that, in the near term at least, Russia is not likely to attack NATO territory for any reason, because Russia can't afford to be in a position in which NATO is responding to a Russian attack against NATO. After all, two modest-sized units were able to maneuver around Belgorod for more than a day, apparently at will, only 100 km or so from Russian forces supposedly engaged in an active invasion of Ukraine.

Russia would not be able to take on NATO even after 10 year. It is Russia not USSR, it is much weaker country than what USSR was, but it seems like many in the media still believe that it is USSR and not Russia that has invaded Ukraine. Russia is weak and is getting weaker for every day that past. And finally most of the west can see that and gonna deliver fighter jet to Ukraine.

@@paulgibbon5991 Considering it is largely old stock, for instance the M1A1s are likely the same tanks the Marines retired a few years ago, it's probably actually less than 5%. The announced number is some kind of weird accounting number. It would be tough to get an actual number. The US has a bunch of stuff that was made obsolete that they still keep around, and a lot of that stuff is the stuff going to Ukraine.

@@davidelliott5843 Actually, the US Budget Office just announced that they discovered the accounting error and are in the process of fixing it. Great query by Dom beginning @55:00. IMO this is a major question as to the usefulness of drones which may be somewhat--ambiguous--as to ownership and which side they are flying for. I would think this question has long since been solved as regards very important drone warfare, but I do wonder how cheaply it's working its way down to those drones purchased from "the lowest bidder."

The interviewee mention when drones were 1ST used. The 1ST recorded use of a drone in combat operations occurred at Ft Dix, NJ, US, operated by a New Jersey National Guard member. This was in the early 1990s. This same National Guard Unit had also created the tank in bore sub caliber devise to save money. So the Unit has a history of creativity. For drones, the NJ Guardsman was testing out a drone on which he had mounted a camera to monitor real time ground movements of troops. It is not clear if this was just an experiment or if his plan was to create a remote security devise for sensitive areas at Ft Dix. Nevertheless, a Marine Reserve Officer monitoring force on force training with his Company. The Marine Platoons maneuvering an attack were told to delay their movement. The drone was used to locate all the EAs (Engagement Areas) of Platoon in defense. They even IDed a counterattack Squad. The attacking Platoons then maneuvered to neutralize the counterattack Squad while avoiding all EAs. The NJ Guardsman submitted his idea for drone use. He got an award. The US military took the idea and expanded upon it. Ukrainians have showed how the original low tech drones are as valuable as their big brothers with Hellfire missiles. It also shows the problems with a static front. If Units are always pushing forward, using drones has limited advantage. Stationary targets, especially Armored Vehicles with open hatches are particularly vulnerable.

It happened during the second war, there were te Polish and Czech detachments, for example. They fought for their own country but out of other allied countries. Is it possible that servicemen/women who are able to fly are currently enrolled in armed services and are unable to volunteer? And there'd be few people would resign their commissions to be able to volunteer, so perhaps the only pilots who'd be in a position to fight for/with Ukraine would have outdated systems knowledge? Still easier training them back up than to train from scratch.

Honestly, if my country was being invaded, I wouldn't give a hoot about the personal beliefs of anyone who would volunteer to help. Even if, god forbid, they were Republicans 😅. Now, if those views were to manifest in criminal offenses, then I would be the first to seek their arrest and subsequent deportation.

Again, like 30 years ago, I have to apologise for the behaviour of my government and their decisions. RSA is such a beautiful country with such a diverse and lovely population, but since my birth, the politicians that ruled missed the mark in more than one way. I pray for the brave Ukranian women and men that put their lives on the slate to fight evil!

What is humiliating is that the Ukrainian army was defeated by a Russian private army. 80,000 Ukrainian men dumped in Bakhmut with no chance of escape. I wonder how many survived. Now i understand that Zel is being forced to start another "counter-attack" which will result in another disaster . The Russians will then take Odessa and Kharkov . Basically Eastern Ukraine which is Russian will become part of Russia

Those Russian units only had two wounded they didn't lose any vehicles actually gain military hardware and the only reason they pulled out is because the Russian military was shooting civilian homes up so they decided to pull out and go back to Ukraine to protect Russian civilians.

The villages that Ukraine broke into were nowhere near Belgorod city first of all, second of all they achieved nothing and were beaten back in a matter of hours with losses. Humiliating? Eh, I guess, but once again this achieved nothing, they crossed it over for a PR stunt and took two villages before running back into Ukraine with losses.

Joe that talked about his talks with Ukrainian officials close to the border between Ukraine and Belarus was extremely boring to listen to and had some takes that make me question his abilities as a journalist. He sounded more like one that would be perfect to write/talk about gossip regarding celebs. I hope I will be spared of having to listen to him on the Ukraine: The Latest podcast ever again. I am for sure not looking forward to hear his reporting. Maybe he should stick to writing, but I have no idea if he is any better at that.

Podcasting is a different animal to news reporting .... it's more like first-person documentary - journalists are expected to expand on their personal reactions to what's happening around them ... however, I have commented before that Joe's stop/start diction is tiring to listen to ... I highly doubt that they would do this, but I would almost be willing to bet that if Ukraine got together a force of 30-40,000 troops with a lot of mechanized artillery, SAMs, drones, etc they would be able to march to Moscow whilst meeting very little resistance. The only caveat to that is Putin would not think twice about nuking Moscow if the AFU troops had taken (and were stationed) in the city. 😮

What actually happened: They drove around a nearest border village for about ~8 hours in total. Some were liquidated, some ran away back to Ukraine. This whole "Belgorod incursion" is just blown out of proportion. The Russians didn't even suffer any casualties. The whole thing is just a distraction from a major Ukrainian loss.
