On October 5, 2023, Russian forces hit a cafe in Hroza, Kharkiv region, with an Iskander ballistic missile during a funeral ceremony, killing 59 village residents, which accounted for 17% of the population before the attack. All deceased were civilians; there are cases of entire families dying.
On that day, Valentyna Kozyr, a resident of the village, lost her daughter, son, husband, and eight-year-old grandson. Only she and her elder grandson stayed alive because they were evacuated to the West of Ukraine. After the strike, Valentyna came back to Hroza.
In this video, we covered how Hroza residents live after the year of tragedy.
