The easier solution is: x^2 = 12+x x^2 -x = 12 x(x-1) = 12 The answer is ALWAYS the one factor of product of two POSITIVE CONSECUTIVE NUMBERS. And if you have the adding inside roots, the answer is the bigger factor. For the subtraction - the smaller factor. The mistake you make is to think that there are two solutions. You confuse a radical function with a quadratic function. x^2 has two solutions, right but √x = y is not this case You don't have the expression, where we can have a negative number or an imaginary number as a solution. -√x = y or √-x = y or √(-x)^2 = y

You forgot something. -3 is an impossible answer. √n = -a, there's no square root of any number that can equal a negative result But nice one anyways
