Conscript catchers have been taking men off the streets of Russian cities to be sent as fresh recruits to fight Putin's war in Ukraine.
Raids have begun in Moscow and St Petersburg and armed police alongside enlistment officers are lurking on street corners, near blocks of flats and even in offices, seeking men for mobilisation.

Russians did not care about Russian soldiers going to Ukraine. The protests against it were so small that it was a joke. Most of these guys were probably laying on their couch cheering on what was happening in Ukraine and the moment they are sent to war they run away. This is what happened in historical times. When you lived as a farmer a few centuries ago in europe, you could be drafted anytime your king or landlord was fighting a war, sometimes teenagers were even kidnapped to become guard members for live.

This is incorrect. The first leader to draft people in an inhumane way was Napoleon. Peasants were asked to fight in medieval times but it was done in a fair and humane way with proper thought for who goes and who stays. This type of barbarism is a modern invention.

Britain's navy had 'impressment gangs' where they would grab people, and force them to serve on their ships. IIRC this was done whenever they were in port and needed people. (Around 1770s, iirc.) This just shows how desperate Russia's situation really is.

Usually though, one could only be drafted for up to 40 days or so per year and not during harvest season. War used to be a seasonal activity, up until the economy changed from mostly barter to mostly monetary. It then became feasible to tax the peasants and pay a standing army of mercenaries year around.
