Russia's S-500 Prometheus Can Intercept Targets In Space, Tackle US F-22 & FF-35 Stealth Jets?

Russian troops will receive the first batch of the long-awaited next-generation S-500 air defence missile system in 2024. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that the air defence system will be delivered in two variations. One variant will be a long-range air defense missile system and the other an anti-missile defense complex. Russia will also be adding more S-400 and S-300V4 air defense missile systems, Buk-M3 and Tor-M2U missile systems to its arsenal. Watch the video to know more about S-500 defence missile system.

Russia is apparently 'slow' in deploying new technology but its approach is steady evolution and refinement of what works. The advantages of this are many but, while 'the west' scoffed at the use of obsolete Soviet tanks etc in the spring of 2022, closer examination of damaged materiel showed variants based on the old equipment specifically purposed to carry out a few operations then be surplus but rigged to be useless to the adversary. In the 'twin cities' campaign early on, Kiev and western supporters paid too little heed to this battlefield strategy. It became evident that some tanks were crewed by 2 men and that autoloaders had become exit mechanisms for crew equipped with secure coms to allow pickup by speedy armed personnel carriers. This was repeated many times and refined to the point of one tank crew being able to control up to 5 old tanks remotely. So-called 'obsolete' heavy artillery was later discovered to have swappable barrels and portable aiming kit to be moved in the event of damage. All of this was actually well planned and when there was bad planning Russia learned very quickly so now we see infantry personnel being well to the rear. S-400 and S-500 development was also multi-role based on tried and tested basics. Whereas Patriot is limited role and too complex to operate if particular components are damaged, Russia uses fewer and tougher components with final launch capability in different variants and missile modes allowing swapped component vehicles to support other weapon systems such as TOS-1A and clever howitzers, The S-500's range and flexible attitude and altitude projectiles to do something never seen before, namely destroying land, sea and air targets even reaching low orbit satellites. It will be interesting to see how soon spy drones and very expensive crewed data feed aerial "boots on the ground" are cleared out of the Black Sea region as the legitimate targets they have always been -- as well as endangering civilian aviation by not using transponders and ignoring ATC protocols in the larger region.

@@naknak97 I think most people know the low flying stuff is hard to hit. There are multiple reasons why. I think over time Russia will learn how to plug those gaps. They have been working on their integration of systems and sensor fusion techniques. If they get that stuff perfected, like some of the optical stuff they have been adding to their targeting systems - that will change things.

@@naknak97 Is your background CPU / DSP / guidance systems? I suspect not, I'm from that sort of background along with nuclear stuff. You don't need 4 nm technology for these system - even 80nm is good enough. Russia has home grown to build 14nm and they will have 10 nm in mass production by year end. Plus, these systems don't need all the overhead of things like Windows. They have very small dedicated system that is able to utilize more of the processing power. And this is the issue with Western weapons. They are about 10% better but at least 10 times the cost and have strict operating conditions. Russian stuff is battlefield rugged and does the job and lasts longer in the harsh conditions in Ukraine and the cold weather there. Never underestimate what Russian stuff can do. It may not be the "best", yet they can bring 10 time more to the party. And that is what is winning this war.
