Change-makers from around the world have been recognized by the Right Livelihood Awards for the role they're playing in trying to make the world a better place. This year, 175 change makers from 77 countries were considered for the award, which has been dubbed the alternative Nobel Prize. The laureates were announced in Stockholm and presented by Ole von Uexkull, executive director of the Right Livelihood Award.
Right Livelihood Award laureates 2022
Prominent Ukrainian human rights defender Oleksandra Matviichuk and the Center for Civil Liberties (CCL) won the award "for building sustainable democratic institutions in Ukraine and modelling a path to international accountability for war crimes." As Chairwoman of the CCL, Matviichuk and the organisation are considered to have been instrumental in strengthening Ukrainian civil society and national institutions for over a decade. They have documented war crimes and human rights violations since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and seek to hold the perpetrators to account.
From Somalia - mother and daughter duo Fartuun Adan and Ilwad Elman were honored "for promoting peace, demilitarisation and human rights in Somalia in the face of terrorism and gender-based violence." The pair are also human rights defenders and lead community-based peacebuilding initiatives while offering support to marginalized communities.
Operating through their oranization Elman-Peace, the mother and daughter support survivors of gender-based violence, disarm and rehabilitate child soldiers and help develop leadership skills among womean and youth.
The Africa Institute for Energy Governance in Uganda (AFIEGO) won for its opposition to projects that seek to exploit Uganda's oil reserves. "When the government knows that there are people around the world who appreciate our work, they think twice about attacking us or our communities," said Dickens Kamugisha, the CEO of AFIEGO.
The Cecosesola organization in Venezuela was honored "for establishing an equitable economic model as an alternative to profit-driven economies." Cecosesola is a network of community organisations from low-income areas that produces and provides affordable goods and services to more than 100,000 families across seven Venezuelan states. The organization is almost entirely self-financed and its various services are offered well below retail prices.

That's a terrible job, but needed to honour the dead and to have at least a chance to hold the perpetrators accountable. I wish Russian leadership would honour life, instead of deliberately using people as cannon fodder. Both Russians and especially Ukrainians deserve better.

I can't imagine what it must be like to do that job. This unspeakable episode qualifies for the term 'holocaust' and should be prosecuted relentlessly. Interestingly, the one of the principals of the Rwandan holocaust was brought to trial this week, over 20 years after the fact. Buckle up, Russia...

From what she says their organization seems to be worldwide, so it is possible, you acn always look it on their page, but anyway, what is the comparison? There are literally videos covering those wars as well, why are you asking about Sudan, if from the title they are already mentioning this is about Ukraine, I get your point, but right now there is no point on comparing, any war is horrible. And if you care so much you are always free to donate and help shed light on those countries.
@ougmass
@ougmass Жыл бұрын
@@spicynoodles2742 Thank you for taking the time to reflect on my comment. I agree with you that all wars are horrible. The war in Ukraine is horrible, and the only way to stop this horror is to stop the war. All past wars have started and also stopped, but after causing horrors and suffering for people and global tension and economic desaster for people. In fact, all wars have such ramifications. Europe has united after they have learned peace from suffering Millions of casualties and horrors of WW1 and WW2. So the past wars' lessons are a reservoir of knowledge that can contribute to the efforts of stopping the horrors in Ukraine. As a matter of fact, past experience in any field of knowledge is crucial fore moving forward. This bring me to your statement about comparing the War in Ukraine with the previous wars such countries as Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen etc... First, when I asked the International Human Rights Lawyer about their investigation of such previous wars, I was not comparing those wars to the war in Ukraine. I was simply asking for information as to the Lawyer's experiences in investigating previous wars'horrors, because such experience will contribute positively to the performance of the Lawyer's investigative work. The horrors in Ukraine deserve the contribution of any additional and relevant war investigation expriences from Viet Nam to Ukraine, because the latter war as its predecessors is horrible in every sense for Ukrainians and for the World. Many eminent experts in the US and Europe are highliting the risk of the Nuclear war which of course nobody can survive. Given this universality of the war horros, the wars become one war and one horror for the humanity. This bring me to the International Human Rights investigations by the Lawyer, as you know, human rights are also universal and an oppression of human rights in any part of the World is, or at least it should be a concern for the World and most importantly an experiece that can contribute to a way of investigating, prosecuting, litigating and sanctioning violations of human rights in Ukraine or in any other part of the World. As to the internet page of the Human rights Lawyer or organization I will follow your suggestion and look it up.but if you have it and you want to share it with me, i will appreciate. Thanks

@Stefan so far, there is no independent court that has convicted anyone of war crimes. Some of us believe in assuming innocence before a guilty verdict. Only a total fool would think that Russian forces have a total monopoly on war crimes in this conflict. The sensible in this world assume that both parties are guilty of war crimes. However, the deluded and brainwashed parrot Western media and point the finger exclusively at Russia. Pathetic.
