Alhamdulillah, FINALLY I managed to track down (and juice 😆) some really awesome Burmese wood. Yes, I myself avoided Burmese for many many years for exactly the same reason as you. Although I didn't buy this batch from Rohingya (there are none who deal in oud), but I ensured that unlike many Burmese agarwood traders who fund the genocide against the Rohingya with the money they generate (a well kept secret 😡), the guy who supplied the wood for this does not.

Low quality and low grade, What is the difference?

Good question! I have my own terminology in which these 2 are different. Grade is more 'objective' (the DARKNESS of the wood, higher grade = darker = higher concentration of compounds). Quality is more about the COMPOSITION of the compounds (higher quality = more aging within the tree, and triggered by certain stimuli). Using soup as an analogy, a "high grade" soup would means its not watery. A "high quality" soup would mean the ingredients themselves are yummy. 😋 And the best is a combination of both (and no doubt, there is an overlap between grade and quality). Note: different stimuli trigger different aromas, even within the same tree (e.g. hacking, lightning strike, fungal attack, gravity, insect activity).
