Malevich is unique and unsurpassed. Not just as a self-taught artist, but as a pioneer.

Malewicz was born in Kiev, to an ethnic Polish family. He is considered a Russian painter and art theorist but he was of Polish origin; in his application for a French visa, he stated his Polish nationality and also signed his paintings in Polish. Thank You .

Crazy how early Rodchenko made his monochromatic paintings! I wonder if Rothko, being russian, was familiar with Rodchenko's work.

Very good summary. What is great about suprematism is how it stands in contrast to the more anti feminist forms you see in the earlier modernistic and cubist works. To a certain extent it shows the genesis of thinking of Ayn Rand. Many forms of Picasso, Matisse, de Kooning do not reach the universality of Malevich and the genre.

I Always like to hearing comments like this - guys, common, it's just ordinary geometric forms! kids can do the same! OMG. How stupid you are critics of avang ard. When i facing with that situation in my life, i remember how people couldn't understand Night Watch.

Malevich is not Russian. Malevich was not only born on the territory of Ukraine, but also strongly identified as Ukrainian. His works reflect Ukrainian motifs and the destructive influence of Soviet ideology on Ukrainians.
