Nice to finally have the sun on your walk about . It was good to have a friend to interpret and add information . The ice fishing was interesting to watch . Being from the SE USA, not used to seeing ice fishing . Once we went to Vermont , and stayed at a hotel, over looking one of the Great Lakes . Many people were ice fishing out on the iced lake . They drove their trucks out there, which had little huts to fish in . Very remarkable ! Thanks for sharing .

I've always wanted to take that Train! What blows me away is that Google says that if you take a car, it can take up to 3 times as long to get to Vyborg. You could almost commute to work to an office in SPB!
@TallTravels Жыл бұрын
Commuting to Spb means you would have to live in Vyborg though, no thanks 😁

It's a very sad city. Vyborg was one of the most beautiful cities in Finland. After the Finnish war, it became part of Russia and all the inhabitants of the town left for Finland. People from central and southern Russia were brought instead. Now you can see what happens when people have no roots and don't care about where they live.

Apparently via Finland can be a cheaper way into Russia for non Russian citizens than via turkey. Plane then coach - Helsinki to St Petersburg then maybe train to Moscow.

It was nice to see our town after a few years from being there the last time (I am half Karelian). But it would have been nice if you had studied the history (or at least the map) a bit beforehand. Now there was quite much totally incorrect information. For example about the round tower which used to be a cannon tower and part of the fortification of the city in the middle ages (only thing left of that fortification). And you even missed the oldest residential building of all of Russia. It was not the building you showed 😆but you would have found the right one if just looked on google maps. Also in old town you walked on the main street right past the beautiful belltower but did not show it on the video even though it is the most easy sight to spot in the old town. Also the tramway was not working anymore in the 90's but instead the soviets were able to maintain and run it only for a few years after taking the town from us Finns. And by the way, the statue of a man (Knutsson) on pedestal is the founder of Vyborg. And the square with Lenin statue is called Red square, or Red spring square which comes from the fact that in old times there was a spring or well there that had red fences around it.

Nice town, but unkempt. There is a Swedish/Finnish influence, which I don't really like. The Golden Ring, for example, is more Russian. And the weather is just gorgeous!
@llssneN3 ай бұрын
Very sad watching it.. how come Russia always feels the need to invade its smaller neighbours and annex more and more areas.. while not even taking care of what it already has, which is of course the largest land area already.. poor Finnish families were murdered and smoked out and driven away deeper to Finland and their old home city was just left to rot like this. Sigh.
