Shostakovich was very proud of being a citizen of St. Petersburg (Leningrad then). He detested to travel to the West. He got irritated with journalists once when he visited United States, as he lately told his friends, those questions were stupid. Though the political environment was very unfriendly to him, his love to his motherland is very obvious.

indeed, quite obviously! can you imagine that here in germany orchestras are x-ing out russian composers like tchaikovsky from their concert programs?? it´s happening, like 80 years ago! and what about the conductor valery gergiev and the singer anna netrebko - both famous musicians who just happened to be on good terms with wladimir putin? nobody was interested in these terms 2 years ago but now that cannot be tolerated anymore and they are sent home, practically. shame on our double standard culture ...

I'm watching it. Russia is not Putin, and many if not most Russians oppose his war. Plus, learning about history and culture is always beneficial, in my opinion.
