Russian Desserts Tour in St. Petersburg (ft. Grandma + Grandpa)

This week we discover some Russian food and sweet treats in St. Petersburg! My grandma gives away her famous syrniki recipe and we indulge in some epic Russian pastry with my grandpa.

250g cottage cheese, dried and drained in a cloth for a few hours
1 egg
1 Tbsp semolina
2 Tbsp flour + some more for rolling
2 Tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
vanilla and cinnamon to taste
2 Tbsp vegetable oil for frying

My mother visited St. Petersburg several years back, and she thought that it was one of the most beautiful cities that she had ever seen. She was struck not just by the beautiful buildings, but,. also, by how stylish, well-dressed and attractive the young people were. She still says today that if she were younger and could still travel, after Italy, Russia would be one of the places to which she would return. ... Your grandparents are adorable. The look on your grandmother's face when she remembers her mother's syrniki reminds me of the look my mom has when she recalls her own late mother's special dishes and things she used to do.

Me stumbling upon this video this late at night and legit becoming 🥹🥲 after watching it. So, super nostalgic, mainly at this time of the year, for me. My heart always become at the size of a pea whenever elders (within their 70's, 80's, 90's and on) speak of their parents in such an emotional and nostalgic way (which is an extraordinarily marvellous thing), I am always overwhelmed when they still speaking about them as if they saw them last week or last month when in many cases they have long departed from this lifetime.
