In UK there is something called "corner shop". These tend to be very small though and you won't find seating or cooking facilities there. This Russian shop could be 1st class "corner shop". Or maybe a community store. I like how clean and spacious it is. And very good range of products. It also has a "cafe" feel without the high café prices...

The first time i've seen a self-service register was at a supermarket in the UK when I travelled with a friend from Germany. I think it was a Tescos and this was back in the mid 2000's. I noticed a few people put items in their bag without scanning them, especially the youth. I guess it didn't hurt the supermarkets profit margin as I hear they still have those self-service cash registers throughout the UK. They probably save more for not having to employ cashiers than they lose from people stealing groceries.

Russia's big on coat hanging facilities everywhere. Not sure this is still the case, but i think some places, like museums, even require you to check your coat in. Maybe it's because a good part of the year bulky outerwear is necessary and the temperatures inside are generally kept very warm. People come first, not the anti-energy religion 🤪

Maybe it have more to do with social status in society, and in some society's colored people range lowest for whatever reason, and if you live there you may think it is due to skin color but in reality is has more to do with position in society? It is interesting in Russia, some places people that ten years ago were the poorest is now gradually raising in income, more fancy clothing, new cars, private individual education for their many children, times are changing.
@IngenuousSopranoАй бұрын
@@Sergey_Bezhentsevif that were the case, then there would be too many exceptions to explain away. I think it has more to do with culture and belief systems. If one believes that they could or should or even have a right to take what belongs to someone else, then of course they'll be more likely to. If they do not, then they'll be far less likely to. Now, what those theft-facilitating beliefs are and who taught them to the people are two different questions that and may have some very different answers depending on the individuals. In my small, American city, I actually have a disproportionately high number of Latino and black neighbors and this area is exceptionally quiet and much safer than my parents' neighborhood in the next city over.
