In general they sent 700 different tanks for offensive where Abrams were planned to use at the end, in last reserves, just for propagandistic campaign how “US made tanks enter in Russian Crimea". Did the Ukrainians ask for the Abrams to be kept away from the frontlines, or did the US ask ? In the case of the Challengers, the British took the precaution to ask for it to stay way from the front, after seeing what happened to the Leopards. When they moved them to the front later, two were lost.

Any tank is vulnerable, blow a track and it becomes a static target. Tank warfare doctrine has always been that they never advance without infantry support, (air as well in modern tjmes). Ukraine do not seem to follow that doctrine and Abrams particularly, require a lot of maintenance work to be kept battle ready.
