You are right once again Anna. No country should trade with another country that doesn't support and respect liberty and human rights. I have been saying for over 50 years that the U.S. should not make China a major trading partner even though many U.S.companies use cheap Chinese labor to make billions in profit. First it made China an ecomonic rival to the U.S. and now it has made China a military rival of the U.S. Some people use to argue that if we traded with China then they would be forced to democratize. It hasn't happened. It may cost more initially to trade with our fellow democratic countries, but in the long run it will turn out to be the cheaper solution.

Remember, 99% of dictators quit just befor-- nah, not gonna bother. But yes, it reminds me of how the US persisted in Viet Nam, despite knowing that the war couldn't be won. putin is making the same mistake, looking for some honourable way to leave the war so he doesn't end up falling off a balcony or putting on nuclear underwear. When Drumpf loses in November, that's probably going to be another major blow to russian morale.

I am Vietnamese, a Hanoian, my family members were deeply working with government in the past, let me explain this in my opinion. - None of civilized Vietnamese people (hopefully most of us) like to have this dictator walk our land. - However, official reasons to let it happens are: + Vietnamese has deeply historical relationship with Soviet Union which Russia was a part of (also Ukraine) came from unwavering support to Vietnamese during the war and many decades after we got independence. So the visit was on behalf of an regular visit to renew very basic policies (nothing special, nothing new) between two countries' people (not this dictator). + Current Vietnamese government's policy is to be friend with everyone so they can welcome anyone as long as they don't go directly opposite with Vietnamese's interest, if anyone goes to Vietnam, they are here to be friend, not to fight. Even though it's an exchange of can't be in deep relation with anyone as well, sharing the power, and stand independently. - Deeper reasons: + As you said, it might be one of the final gratitude to Russia through current Russian "leader on paper" while he still can but maybe not for long anymore. + The aggression from china is always high which is one of its strategy with nearby geographical areas. So this is to keep a big party stay in the game, specifically in the area, to keep the balance between all nations overall such as US, china, Russia, Japan etc.. - The deepest reasons possible: + This dictator is weaken, it's the time to see what they can get advantage of before china do it and this will be the future threat. In fact, if you can see the total picture as we did here, this dictator tried to seek for a lot of support in Vietnam for what we all know about, but non of them get approval finally.
