Russian Revolution: 100 years on: BBC News Review

It's 100 years since the Bolsheviks took power in Russia. Neil and Catherine teach you how to use language in the news in your everyday English.
The story:
Low-key events are being held in Russia to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution.
Members of the communist party, now in opposition, are celebrating the armed uprising by Lenin's Bolsheviks with a march and rally in Moscow.
But President Putin and his government are playing down the significance of the revolution. There are no special events at the Kremlin on what is an ordinary working day.

Everday I listen 6 minutes learning english from BBC. I listen on the bus for university, the duration travel is about 2 hours, so I listen in the repeat a program for day and this is very helpful. Thanks Neo e Rob ;)

I googled the word 'low-key' addressed in this episode of News Review for news articles containing the word 'low-key' But unfortunately I got a very wide range of results from it which had little to do with studying more about the word 'low-key'. Then I googled the third word 'the promise of' in an attempt to get various news articles using the word 'the promise of' so that I can see the extended use of the promise of in different sentences. and as a result I got what I was looking for but I couldn't work out how I put together all the articles I got to write an essay. I will try to come up with a better idea for an essay featuring those words in an effort to improve my English skills. Thanks BBC Learning English News Review for the great works.

Who could pay activities of other professional "russian" revolutionists at the beginning of the 20th century? Russian Revolution it is very ambigious event actually. It caused a lot of dreadfull and terrific events (for example civilian war). So it it is hard to talk about "high-key" celebration with baloons and stuff.

The success of Stalin - the man who used to boast that he conquered the United States "from the plow to the atomic bomb in just a generation" - compared to Gorbachev's failure shows that a socialist economy is unable to function with a minimum of efficiency without requiring a massive dose of political violence.
