The ship sailed from Murmansk, Russia. Damaged soon after, and still not turned back to Murmansk... Instead, they want to port in different NATO harbors... Right! Not supiscious at all. "Nothing to see here, move along, move along"

20000 ton of Ammoniumnitrate do not have the explosive power of the same amount of conventional explosives (referred on TNT): in Beirut exploded an estimated amount of 4,5 kT NH4NO3, which gave a "yield" of ca. 800-1000 tons of TNT. The conversion factor is therefore roughly 5:1. 4000 tons TNT is still a huge blast, if detonated. But doesn't the UK have a very capable Navy? Sink the bucket in a save distance from land by some torpedoes. Ammoniumnitrate is very good soluble into water.

In small amount it burns like a cigar. Even if you mix it with fuel oil it will just not detonate without a primer (think stick of dynamite); blasting cap won't work. But with tons to kilotons it becomes self-confining; it burns like a cigar, but there's no where for the heat to go but to heat the surrounding material, eventually it is burning fast enough that the pressure and heat can't escape fast enough it just runs away towards a full on detonation. The problem is just the amount; in a 50 kg bag it is a safe chemical that might at worst accelerate a fire.

@@mrb.5610 The blame of the welders is still pretty unreasonable. Lots of experts deny the welders were at fault. Who knows? The only people clearly to blame were the government at the time, who has resigned, and the port authority, who just ignored the problem until it essentially removed the port from existence in less than a second. Still, no one is being held responsible. Criminal charges against those most closely involved were dropped. Corruption is rampant in the government...ALL governments, everywhere.

This reminds me of the Russian ship full of Nitrates that was abandoned in Beirut port in Lebanon in 2020. It was a very strange situation bacause the Russian owner did not pay port fees effectivly abandoning the ship, its cargo and crew in the Beirut port. As the authorities tries to reach him they had to seaze tge cargo. To avoid additional costs they put it in a silo in the port to minimise transport costs as rheybwxpected the owner to show up and pay the fees and fine, and move the cargo out ofbthe port. Very soon it became aperentvthat the owner abandoned the cargo which was very strange. Due to prolonged exposure to the Sun and not ideal conditions in the silo the Nitrates exploded leveling the port and half of the city…

@johnbravemusic

That's not what happened. The company went bankrupt while it was at port, the crew were kept effectively as prisoners on the ship for over a year before being allowed to leave. The ammonium nitrate was then moved from the ship, seized by the Beirut government, and badly stored inside a warehouse which was then suspected to be ignited due to sparks from welding equipment that was fixing a breach in the warehouse. Beirut are completely responsible for that catastrophe. Theres no strange conspiracy, Beirut let that happen, and the way they dealt with it after was a disgrace.

How to recognize propaganda: 1) When given a problem, fear rather than reason is used to present the solution. 2) When you're pressured into accepting the solution. 3) When you're not allowed to question the solution. 4) When the solution involves surrendering your freedoms. 5) When your eyes see one thing, but you are compelled to believe a different thing. 6) When the solution means giving small groups of people control over larger and larger things. 7) When dissenters are censored for refusing to accept the solution. 8) When dissenters are targeted by accusations from different sources, suddenly and all at once.

How dangerous is it? Not very. Ammonium nitrate is an oxidizer. It needs a fuel to explode, and it needs to be mixed correctly. And it needs an explosive detonator.
@soylentgreenb
@soylentgreenb 6 сағат бұрын
This is incorrect; the ammonia ion is the fuel. It contains both fuel and oxidizer but it's not in an optimal ratio. It can still full on detonate without any added fuel. In small amount it burns like a cigar. Even if you mix it with fuel oil it will just not detonate without a primer (think stick of dynamite) to set it off; blasting cap won't work. But with tons to kilotons it becomes self-confining; it burns like a cigar, but there's no where for the heat to go but to heat the surrounding material, eventually it is all burning fast enough that the pressure and heat can't escape fast enough and it just runs away towards a full on detonation. The problem is just the amount; in a 50 kg bag it is a safe chemical that might at worst accelerate a fire. There have been detonations with ammonium nitrate on the scale of a truck crashing in a ditch and catching fire. That big red mushroom cloud in Beirut was a pure ammonium nitrate explosion; that red stuff is excess NO2.
@Landrew0
@Landrew0 6 сағат бұрын
@@soylentgreenb Special conditions are necessary for it to occur, unlikely to happen on that ship. The explosion in Lebanon was the result of a long-burning fire.

Times Radio I am disapointed in you. Why do you put people like this on. #1 he keeps saying 20,000 kilotons of explosive. he should be saying 20 kilotons or 20,000 tons. Also he keeps equating ammonium nitrate to TNT they are not equivalent in explosive power. Ammonium nitrate is about 40% equivalent to TNT.

2:23 actualy the yeilds can very depending whats need, or asked for when it comes to (tactical nukes) anywhere from 100 kilotons to a fraction of a kiloton. So using, " two tactical nuclear weapons" as a scaler is extremely vague and unreliable. Stick with tnt energy equivalence. Much more accurate.

Ammonium nitrate has only about 50% the explosive power of TNT, so about 2/3 of the Hiroshima bomb... Just stay 3km away and enjoy the fireworks. What a load of fear mongering BS.

This guy assumes that ammonium nitrate has the same explosive yield as TNT. It doesn't, by a factor of about three (see e.g. Wikipedia's article "TNT equivalent", subsection "Relative effectiveness factor").

I don't know if this ship, if it sinks would cause an environmental problem for the British coast. If this is the case, don't make the same mistake as Spain made with the ship "Prestige".

This is ridiculous! This cargo ship has been traveling for weeks now and has been to various ports but keeps getting denied access. All they need to do is dock the vessel and unload it like they have done many times. What does it have to do with nuclear weapons?
