Probably could sell it back to Russia for 10 times that as it would be very illegal to remove it from there today......on my last trip to Russia I bought a Samovar tea pot with the complete service made from blue plate ceramic......I had to have documentation proving that it was a recently produced piece and not an antique

Alive. They landed in Baltimore alive. To lots of Russians who didn't live through the brutalities of the revolution, Baltimore woulda been a paradise. Let's also assume they didn't throw a dart at a map of the U.S. - guessing they had relatives there already.

Not really. Monograms and inscriptions pretty much always lower the value, no matter how beautifully done they are. Russian silver is also less desirable because it's not sterling. It's 80% silver, instead of 92.5% silver. That doesn't sound like a huge difference, but it makes a difference in the color and shine. It doesn't look very nice mixed in with sterling pieces. It also doesn't mix well with other silver styles from a design perspective. The design is such a random pastiche of different elements that it won't work with hardly anything else. In and of itself, it is an attractive, well made piece. It has a lot working against it though. All things considered, the value isn't that bad for a three piece set.

@@jasonmichael3676 I collect Russian Enamel so this is a bit out of my wheelhouse, but not far. I have a book on Russian silver hallmarks and several books showing different pieces (Sotheby's catalogs too). There are a lot of fakes/reproductions out there so a guaranteed legit set with a history like this comes up it certainly adds to the value. My collection is worth about $10K, but I spent $4,000 on a single cigarette case from a very reputable dealer. It's easy to spend $100,000 on a single larger piece from a well known maker (Feodor Ruckert for example)
