Everyone talks about the Nazi war crimes committed during WW2. And while those war crimes are horrific, one thing that's very rarely talked about are the Soviet war crimes committed during that exact era. As the Soviets marched towards the west, they came upon the Nazi concentration camps. While they liberated those who were forcibly stuffed in said camps, the suffering for these imprisoned civilians had only just begun. Men were killed. Women were raped. These rapes and murders were committed by the Soviets. Mass rapes, deportations, ethnic cleansings and civilian shellings were committed mainly in Poland, Germany and Hungary. The war crimes committed by Putin's Russia in Ukraine today are the exact same as the ones committed by Stalin's Red Army during WW2. And before you say anything about how "The Germans deserved it because they did the same to the Soviets" I will instead say this: no one deserved it. No one deserves to have their country ravaged and raped by war. Not even the aggressors. These kinds of atrocities are sadly nothing new for the Russians. Military commanders treat their own soldiers like subhumans. We all know the old saying - the abused become abusers themselves. If Russians truly want change, they need to look towards getting rid of those on top. Nothing will change otherwise. But we know what Russian propaganda is like, and how it prevents things from changing. When the Soviet Union fell in '91, we all thought the evil empire died, and were happy because of it. But who could've known that the destruction of the USSR actually turned Russia into more of a threat despite weakening Moscow's grip on the Russian territory. But with that being said, I still stand by Ukraine's side. They were unjustly invaded. They have a right to fight back, and have no intentions of invading Russia beyond the internationally recognized borders. Ukraine doesn't target civilians within Russia. Keep this difference in mind.
