You would be surprised at what pilots do to each during intercepts. I remember crazy intercepts from both sides in the early 90's. while I was the Navy it was come. Yes they would slip in on each other like this. Recent famous case happened near Iran.

Problem is, the Raptors which are stealth are invisible to the flanker D's. The flanker D's pretty much have nothing to lock on to. However, the Raptors do have something to lock on to.

This footage proves me right the activities near the Alaskan border have increased . When I served on aircraft carriers we would go through the Aleutian islands to get to the baren sea once we enter we knew the clock was ticking . They would send either Su-23 Floggers ,Tu -95 , Tu-16 Badgers or Tu-95 Bears . The encounter was intense of we would launch our fighters to intercept theirs and this whole process would go on days . But now with the war going on in Ukraine I can only imagine what it's like now . Air force and Navy are probably flying around the clock sorties and keeping heavy surveillance just to let them know that we mean business if they try to do the unthinkable !
