+beavis simpson In the U.S., most people leave the stuff from the previous store in the trunk of their car. You can put the cold stuff in a cooler with ice in the trunk if necessary also. Do cars get robbed a lot or people ride buses more in Russia, Germany, and Spain where they have these lockers?

I've wanted to find a channel like this for YEARS. Wonderful tour! I am American and was quite young when the USSR dissolved. I remember feeling like there was suddenly a big mystery world to discover and I've been fascinated by Russia and Russian culture ever since. This is the sort of topic I'm most curious about. Thank you so much for letting me see Russia as it is. I'm going to subscribe right now.

That's so similar to stores here in Michigan that it reaches Uncanny Valley territory. Because it's really close, but just a little different, and that's unsettling. ^_^ Even the prices are about what I'd expect to pay down at the Meijer a few blocks away. Except the good vodka was a lot cheaper. The fresh BREAD and produce was cheaper, too. Especially the bread, you can GET good, fresh bread here, but it costs way more.

Thanks for making this, I like seeing videos of everyday life in other countries. The prices are low, but not as low as I expect them to be. A few of the items seem to cost more than US items like the Jack Daniels. I always thought vodka would be a lot cheaper than it is in the US, but its really not that cheap in Russia.

Sergei, if you want to open some "Western Eyes" to the foods of Russia then take your camera to the Markets, especially in the Krasnodar region. I spent the equivalent of $10 Australian and bought enough food for my fiancee and I for 3 days. The food was delicious and the marketeers would allow you to taste test - They were very friendly.

Real Russia I LOVED your video. It is very obvious to me the amount of work & enthusiasm you put into your show! I will be doing my own show in the near future. One of the concepts I believe in to build a better world is to start children at the youngest of ages from different countries doing videos for each other to help solve their unique problems. That way they grow up virtual: friends, brothers, something substantive together. What do you think?

Thanks for the video, my friend. I used to help run a hostel here in the USA and we used to get a lot of Russian students here for the summer. I became fascinated with the culture and them. Still have many of them as friends to this day. Always wondered about stuff like the everyday lives of Russians. And this gives me a good glimpse into it. Always wanted to know this very stuff. Shows me that it isn't so different over there at all. You're doing your part in promoting peace because a lot of people seem to have wrong views of what people in other countries besides the good ol USA are like. I try to tell them that they have families, jobs, drive cars, worry about bills, etc, just like we do here. Great video!!!!

Very interesting and enjoyable to watch. Of course, here in USA we are not shown many good things about Russia, so I am so happy to find your channel. I love learning about other countries and cultures and have loved visiting other countries. Of course now with rising prices, rising taxes and NOT rising wages I can no longer afford vacations let alone travel to other countries so I travel via internet(but cannot meet the people, see the museums or try the food this way lol. I did find the packaging colors rather strange. I noticed most are either greenish/blue, orange or white. Are these packaged by state run companies? Product packaging here has wild and crazy, chaotic colors by comparison. I am looking forward to watching your other videos.
@ЕленаМаксимова-з7з

Red color draws attention to the product. Cold colors (white, blue, green) are associated with freshness. Perhaps that is why these colors are used for packaging.

I have been to Russia on two occasions and both times I was amazed. The first when I was very young shopping was very interesting. You go to the counter say bread you pick what you want then you get a ticket then in the centre of the shop you pay and get a receipt then go back and pick up your bread and so on. And no bag no paper to wrap up in nothing you where just handed it. The second trip was a time of transition but still I was amazed at how it had changed very different and much the same as here in Australia.

Cheaper versions of the most common products produced by the store itself (or at least branded by the store; sometimes their products are actually made by the major brand on behalf of the store and then packaged under the store brand).

I am from Indiana ,USA. I'd say that supermarket seems very similar to North American markets. I have never seen a store with lockers for your things so that no one can accuse you of stealing, that is a good idea. I like how your basic foods are a lower that way a family could still eat. I don't know much about Russia maybe the minimum wage could be lower? Most bottles of liquor are $15 to $20 where I live. The cheapest loaf of bread is $1.50. Milk is almost $4.00 a gallon (I drink almond milk its better for you and cheaper). Bananas are 50 cents a pound. It is almost $4.00 for a bag of salad spinach. I don't eat meat but if I recall correctly it can cost about $4.00 a pound.

+Ron Williams And a RUSSIAN economics professor once visited my university to give a speech about the link between economics and politics. One question the audience kept asking her was: does a capitalist society seem doomed to failure no matter how well it works in Russia and will it survive? Interestingly, she suggested that it would survive mostly because people would be exposed to things they had never even seen before and would embrace them more out of curiosity. I had some doubts (this was in 1995) about this but am a little bit surprised that it worked out far better than I ever expected. Note that I did not say it would fail. I thought it would survive but not particularly well as some hard-liners would reject it but the majority will embrace it. PS: Russians in my university LOVED to party. They were also the most laid-back personalities I've ever come across. But they make good friends if you get to know them. Sadly, times change. They have to move away when graduation comes. Maybe one day, I'll make a trip to Ulyanovsk to see one or two of them.

+Ron Williams, we in Russia are not theorists. We really tasted both socialism and capitalism. I think, I will not be wrong if I'll say that vast majority of Russians hate capitalism as well as its bringers - Gorbachev and Eltzin. They are considerd by Russians as traitors and thiefs. And if will be at least a small chance to return socialism we will do it.

yannick van niel Prices are higher but earning are also much higher in America. The high prices stems from the high cost of labor and any tax burdens. Russians have a flat tax which makes things simpler and the taxes less burdensome. In addition Putin has a difficult time collecting taxes bringing the prices down further with respect to people wages. This is a high end grocery and prices are going to be higher than haggling on the street but also more convenient.

Prlygrl Moran I wouldn't say the caviar is a common and popular food in Russia. It's just one more stereotype. In fact, you can easily buy the caviar in russian stores, but it's pretty pricey. Isn't it the same for any place in Europe or the USA?

I don't see anyone standing behind the shelves/pults haha ideal for shoplifting. I hope there are no security cameras watching over. The products seem a bit expensive, imagine the stuff you could buy in a supermarket in Serbia for 7 dollars. You see prices are cool, but it's all in vain when you don't get your income you can't buy anything. And I laughed hard when you ran up to that woman to grab the milk on 3:20 she was probably like Bratva is coming to get me lol.
