lol Ukraine is retreating. When did Ukraine’s counter offensive end? They’re advancing in the wrong direction. Russia literally punched a hole through their lines and pouring in from behind ulcerating the entire area. I’d say it’s too late for a retreat in bakhmut. Atleast the Russians are taking a huge casualties or so they say. Try telling that to the Ukrainian soldier on the front line. That his only purpose is to be expendable and maximize Russian casualties. Not exactly helping Ukrainian morale when they’re on the retreat….

I just want to mention. A big difference in this war is that it is right on the border of NATO and also Russia. Witch is a big difference to Afganistan. I don't think NATO will stop supporting Ukraine. The only conclusion that can be drawn when there are major setbacks because tha tanks are late is that we took to long to support Ukraine with them.

Garry Kasparov recently described the war in Ukraine as the war that NATO was built to fight in 1949. Why are NATO countries hanging on to their weapons, when they could be used to stop the war spilling into other countries? No country is going to invade the UK, why do we need to hang on to most of our challenger tanks? If Ukraine loses this war it will be seen as a failure of NATO countries to supply them what they need. I would like to see more discussion and more pressure put on arms suppliers....Keep up the good work, I never miss a podcast.

Its difficult to say whether what is happening on the ground now is the Russian offensive, or whether they are just trying to prepare ground for that offensive. But to give some perspective - the Ukrainians are concerned that the offensive may delay their own spring counter-offensive or reduce its effectiveness by consuming reserves intended for the counter-offensive. Ukraine does not appear concerned about whether Russian offensive could win the war for Russia.

Don't forget Afghanistan wasn't extremist before the USA were arming and training the extremists there in the 80s against Russia, and then USA didn't care what extremists were doing to women until 9/11. Now USA has handed Afghanistan back to Taliban again, and we are opening holidays camps to fill all the asylum aeekers. Syria under Assad was one of few middle east nations with many religions that live together in peace, and USA have been arming and training extremists in Syria to overthrow Assad as he's friendly with Russia.

All those conspiracy theories about 9/11, and nobody talks about the obvious, how the USA fund the extremists. Like how they're arming the extremists to take over Syria because Syria under Assad was one of few middle east countries with many religions that live together in peace. If what we can see suggests an offensive in the east, I'd be especially alert to anything happening in the other possible directions of attack... from the south, Zaporizhzhia, or from the north, around Kyiv or, especially, from Belgorod, toward Kharkiv. If Ukraine's own operations have taught the Russians anything, it might be misdirection.

I think a lot of us hope that that is the case, but knowing our politicians, we are skeptical. Other channels suggest that the real problem for maintaining a decent defense rather than continuing to lose ground to Wagner is that the Ukrainians do not have enough machine guns, do not have enough success using drones to help target artillery, and do not have very good officers. It's great to hear that the UK is making a genuine, useful contribution to Ukraine in the form of Challenger tanks instead of dragging its heels like other tank-producing countries we could name. It sounds as if Ukraine needed to field more soldiers--with more machine guns, mortars, and grenade launchers, if it was to prevent the loss of the Bakhmut / Soledar region to Wagner. It seems like a wasted effort to send F-16 or other air to air fighter jets. Maybe Ukraine could make use of ground attack aircraft; Ukraine definitely needs more surface to air missile systems to take down Russian flying bombs (It makes no sense at all to waste expensive patriot missiles on countless, cheap drones; the finite number of Patriot missiles should be saved for cruise missiles.)

Vladimir Putin: Military operation VS War. An operation involves the 'Attacked' only retaliating, it does not attack and none of its actions are considered 'Offensive'. Any retaliatory response from the resistor that neutralizes attacking weapons, disrupts or incapacitates their movement such as taking out bridges, railways, ships, submarines, Aircraft carriers or airfields are considered a 'Resistance' or also 'Preemptive Self Defense'. Therefore regardless of where the attacking assets in Russia are located (even next door my dining room), they are vulnerable to be neutralized by the 'Resistor' to achieve self defense and are not construed as offensive in any way. Implicitly, I need to optimize my personal safety as a result, this is indeed distressful.

The truth. Annual Munich Security Conference. Since 1963. While hosting this to primarily promote German exports of its arms industry , Germany as largest Euro NATO country was only spending half of its NATO required 2% of GDP AND cooks the books so much of that 1% expenditure was exported at a great profit and hence recovered most of 1% expenditure. !!!!!!!! Ukraine is losing the War - The New York Times: The United States’ recent promise to ship advanced M1 Abrams battle tanks to Ukraine was a swift response to a serious problem. The problem is that Ukraine is losing the war. Not, as far as we can tell, because its soldiers are fighting poorly or its people have lost heart, but because the war has settled into a World War I-style battle of attrition, complete with carefully dug trenches and relatively stable fronts. Such wars tend to be won - as indeed World War I was - by the side with the demographic and industrial resources to hold out longest. Russia has more than three times Ukraine’s population, an intact economy and superior military technology.

I had a feeling that Russia would wait for the tanks to arrive, the publicity coup of British, French, German tanks on Russian soil in WWII German markings would have been great for propaganda. Given 80% of the countries on earth support Russia quietly, seeing NATO equipment in iron crosses could have led to direct military support against NATO. As it is, with Ukraine collapsing its probably too much of an opportunity not to ignore, so the Russians are going to grab some ground before settling down to wait.

I think there's more at play here than the public knows. Remember, the military only tells the public what they want the public to know. Ukraine may be better prepared than what's being mentioned. I would love it if Ukraine hit Russia's major ammo dumps and staging areas just before Russia's major assault begins, then starts their own counter offensive.
