Russian troops have successfully taken control of the village of Klescheevka, a strategic settlement in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), according to an announcement from Moscow’s Defense Ministry on Wednesday. This development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing conflict in the region.
The Defense Ministry credited the capture of Klescheevka to the “active actions” of Russia’s ‘South’ group of forces. Battles for the village have been fierce since spring 2023, coinciding with intense fighting in Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut in Ukraine, located just 10 kilometers to the north. Bakhmut was completely seized by Russian forces in May last year.

Klishchiivka is not a town and has been captured and left by the Russians several times since the liberation of Bkhmut. It's an important place because it's on the beginning of the ridge line leading to Chasiv Yar.
