VIDEO CORRECTION: When I say the Croatian PM said there was a danger the drone could have struck a Croatian nuclear power station I misspoke when quoting the original Croatian-language article. He said the drone could have struck a Hungarian nuclear power station, causing a serious incident. Here's the original article: www.index.hr/clanak.aspx?id=2346716

I've seen a number of US gov't videos about industrial accidents. Frequently, accidents happen because someone disabled an alarm system because it kept going off or because previous false alarms caused people to ignore the real thing. You'd think that, with a war going on next door, you'd pay attention to anything flying into your air space, but I guess not.

after a number of false alarms, people tend to get complacent. And especially if superiors threaten them with punishment if they make a false report again they're more likely to not report something and claim later they never saw it than to report it on the off chance it might be real this time. That attitude isn't new, it's been there forever. The main reason Mathias Rust wasn't shot down for example was pretty much the same. After the shooting down of KAL007 over Siberia there had been such a backlash in the Soviet air defense forces that the officers who should have ordered the Cessna shot down or forced to land were afraid to do so without direct orders from Moscow, orders that never came because their superiors who had to relay the requests to Moscow were afraid to bother the generals in the ministry of defense...

In an airspace incursion the air defense operators will request a pilot do a visual check of the radar contact. The pilot would have identified the civilian Cessna and known it was not a NATO attack. Then it becomes an interior police issue.

Dr Felton. Thank you for your commentary. I’ve enjoyed your history lessons. I also find it refreshing to get some actual unbiased narratives on what is actually happening in Ukraine. Since most of the EU had no idea that anything had fallen on Zagreb, Mr. Felton surprised me every time. This drone is a relic ready for a museum, but it was used by the Ukrainian army for an exercise There are two possible variants of the event: provoking the Russian Air Force to reveal its radar positions but a malfunction in the outdated navigation system led it to my city Another possible scenario is the deliberate launch of a drone through the airspace of NATO members to show the Alliance Command that we are all vulnerable, if the 1970 drone can, then modern missiles can do much more. Our Prime Minister together with the Minister of Defense put forward the thesis that an FAB-120 air bomb was placed in the drone and they placed it in the media without evidence or findings of experts who only confirmed that there were traces of explosives on the drone but from retro parachute launchers and a small charge in a system that would destroy equipment in a drone so that the enemy would not find out what his reconnaissance mission was This was confirmed by the retired pilot of the Croatian Air Force, Brigadier Ivan Selak, that all Russian planes have similar charges aimed at destroying communication devices. I don't know why our government is sticking to the air bomb story because the people don't feel safe that bombs are falling on the capital again after 27 years since the war for independence. Or is it a story for NATO to create some kind of hysteria to increase control over our country because we currently do not have the ability to control the sky at night It seems that we Croats will not find out the truth so quickly

Hi Mark! Im Croatian, and also a fellow history and military enthusiast. I just wanted to say, that It takes 10 minutes to assemble the squadron of our MiG-21s, the drone was in our airspace for 7 minutes, so it wasn't possible for it to be intercepted. I am glad that the drone fell and didn't injure anyone, it could of went much worse. Im glad our government after this incident started to think about buying an air defence system like the Patriot or NASAMS, because we currently dont have any air defence systems and it is the biggest disadvantage of our military. But 12 French Rafale f3r fighters are on order.

Being from Zagreb, I'm still not quite convinced there was an actual bomb on that drone, as the start of the investigation was very poorly organized (many Croatian former and current military officials said that alternatively it was just a small charge to destroy the camera and film). Regardless, this absolutely should not have happened and shows some major problems in the NATO chain of command and defence systems.

I believe this reduction of size was mostly due to a poor choice of words - at first they said the bomb's weight was 140kg, which was interpreted as the amount of explosives, but then they "clarified" that was the weight of the entire bomb which contained only 40kg of pure explosives. That amount is still a lot and many think it would have made a bigger crater.

After 7 minutes of flying from the Hungarian border, the Ukrainian drone Tu-141 ran out of fuel and, according to the program, dropped a parachute, which probably fell off due to age and did not do its job, and the drone crashed into the ground creating a 3m crater. The drone itself probably carried an intelligence package instead of a combat one, and the parts and traces of explosives found were minimal and probably served for self-destruction. If indeed the drone was equipped with a warhead, the warhead did not activate, because otherwise a warhead of 100-120 kg of explosives would do drastically more damage and a crater of much larger diameter.

@@MarkFeltonProductions It should be noted that many other current and former Croatian military officials expressed doubt in the "large bomb" theory, instead opting for the "small bomb" described here (as the crater wasn't incredibly large, non of the debris were expelled from it, almost no window in the vicinity shattered...). Indeed the government itself is the only official source, but their initial statements were very clumsy and rushed, leading some to believe the statements about the bomb were only said to get NATO's interest.

This was not accidental crash, it has to be programmed to hit in Zagreb. Tu-141 is programmed a bit complicated for the flight, most of the guidance parameters are analog inputs so that "error" would not lead to such a stable flight path, further from radar monitoring there are flight path corrections of wind-induced deviations are visible and also very obvious course corrections, ie the drone had very specific targets because the correction parameters were narrowly set to save fuel if larger deviations from the direct nearest path to the target were allowed. Furthermore, the urbanized area of Croatia is so small that the probability that an aircraft consumes fuel after a flight of more than 1000 km and "falls" right on Zagreb is approximately 1: 235808000

Personally satisfied to hear the full version of the acronym "UFO" used correctly. Doesn't automatically mean "alien spacecraft", just an unknown object up in the sky (most tend to use the term "UAP" or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, these days precisely because the term UFO is so loaded). Since you've already covered Die Glocke and the rumors of Nazi flying discs, just for giggles it'd be interesting to see something about the "Foo Fighters" and "Ghost Rockets" commonly reported during WW2 might've been.
