Russian kids first learn writing in block letters and then, when at school, learn cursive. Russian speaking adults may use cursive, block letters, or, I'd say most commonly, use a mix of both. So, for beginners, it makes more sense to start with writing in block letters (follow it here: 1:16), and then later start learning cursive, if they decide to. 0:22 - Using block letters vs Writing in cursive 1:16 - Follow me and write all the letters of the Russian Alphabet 👉 Here's a TOUCH TYPING TUTOR for learning how to type in Russian without looking at the keyboard: solo.nabiraem.ru/en/ A great FREE pdf resource to Start Practicing Russian cursive handwriting from the RUDN University in Moscow: roslib.rudn.ru/public/uploads/admin/library/books/5e2ebec02fb89/pdf/book5e2ebec02fb89.pdf?fbclid=IwAR3GdDgJ0TcxtvV-Si_ZrWgG1j8gAsUD25s0f4GxvvRIsL4SpJ5WGi_NCnI 👆 This video is a part of a guided plan for learning Russian: kzbin.info/aero/PLpgpVaWoAiTEF8aNQvPnFCLBrtIeF3tqa

You know when you write the у (lowercase or upper case in Russian), say you are writing on lined paper, does it cross the line you are writing on and go below or does it stay above the line as if it was a capital Y in English?

I like how you write the alphabet in this video. A comment below about the letters "A" , "E" and "Ë" (that they should be written the same as the capitals only smaller (according to another native speaker-Denis Fedorov). I like other videos from you; nice work and thanks.

So to summarize, the only letters that really differ in shape are Аа Ее Ёё. I have seen Фф written both with a loop each side of the vertical line, and with a circle around the vertical line, as in the Greek phi Φ. I think that the latter is gaining ground as the former is a bit suggestive of the male private parts...

I'm Brazilian and trying to learn Russian on my own. Your videos have helped me quite a lot. But I have a question: I've noticed you've used Λ instead of Л. Which is more common? Is Л going to be replaced with Λ in texts from newspapers, websites, etc?
@RussianComprehensive4 жыл бұрын
It's good to hear that! Л is used in computer fonts, and Λ is used in handwriting. Check out the transcript to the video to see a comparison picture with Helvetica font vs handwriting.

@@RussianComprehensive I have seen some Russian fonts where Д and Л have pointed tops rather than flat tops, but it is a minority and they mostly mimic block handwriting in other ways. As they both come from Greek Delta and Lambda, I have never understood the flat top affectation.

So, most handwritten Slavic (such as Russian, Bulgarian, etc.) and non-Slavic languages in Cyrillic alphabet uses the cursive letters, especially in personal papers and schoolwork.
@RussianComprehensive4 жыл бұрын
I'd say, it's very similar to English. In Russian speaking countries, kids first learn writing in block letters of course. Then at school, around the age of 7, they start learning cursive. Adults may write in cursive, in block letters, or (what most people do) in a mix of both, it's just a personal choice. The only thing, there're some cases when a person is required to write only in block letters, as when filling out different forms in Russian, which I mention in the video.

Very interesting Ш is written like a sideways F connected to an L, and Щ is written like a sideways F + with a hooked L. I never saw 6 before, or the modified 6. Is that same as Ь (myagkeey znahk) and Ъ (tvyordiy znahk)? I listened to other people's videos, and still can't tell the difference between hard and soft. Or the difference between Ш and Щ (In Chinese, we have Sha (tongue at top palette) and Xia (tongue immediately behind teeth). Sounds like you have Ш, Ж, and 3. Then Ш and Щ. I always get Ъ, Ы, Ь, Б, and В all mixed up. I always think Б = v, but in fact В = v and Б = B. I always think Ы is the soft symbol, but Ь is soft and Ъ is hard. I still can't hear the difference between hard and soft. Does everything soft have a "Ya" sound? You have Ы and you have Й, then you have ИЙ. They all sound alike. Am I correct that you have two sets of vowels? Your vowels are A, Э, И, O, У (hard?), and then Я, E, Й, Ё, Ю (soft?)

So in block writing я is written backwards, with the vertical stroke first, then the loop and leg added to the left?

I wasn't too learn Russian, but it's hard, like why some words have more ways to be writting like mental = психический but also ментал, but why, why i can write this word is 2 ways, and one which is the one correct? And there more words and letter suspicios, and strange, when i write a word and if i change a latter, the word changes complete, pls someone explain me, and when i search on web, the russian alphabet to english, there is, ok, there is but some letter aren't translated to english the same, for example М=M, Н=N and И=e Г=G but when i translate a letter like G there is g=грамм. What the fuck, why is everything soo hard and irrational, what.

Good video but I am confused. So it means that there are four ways of writing an alphabet in Russian? Capital in block letters Small in block letters Capital in cursive letters & Small in cursive letters Am I right?
@RussianComprehensive4 жыл бұрын
It's the same as in English, one can choose to write in block letters or in cursive. Capital letters will slightly differ from small letters, like these: D-d, F-f. Cursive will be more complicated than block letters, both to write and to read. And just as in English, you use capital letters in the beginning of a phrase, for names of people, cities or countries, and so on.
@tahmed18704 жыл бұрын
@@RussianComprehensive Thanks for the explanation. But why in the video you have shown one alphabet two times? i.e. A and A again next to it in small font size. They both are same. Instead of Aa, you have shown AA.
