Setting An Impedance Matching Volume Control

i have russound controls attached to legacy speakers that existed before i bought my property, as such i have no manuals, when the video is referring to total number of speakers does that mean speakers connected to the amp or specifically speakers downstream of the volume control?

Speaker input is easy, but are the speaker pairs wired in series or parallel at the output?

It's assumed neither. There are two leads coming off the controller, one for each speaker so they aren't wired together. You could in theory wire two pairs of 8 ohm speakers in parallel to the same controller; one pair on each output. That would be equivalent to 1 x 4 ohm speaker pairs. So you'd just follow the left side of the chart "4-ohm speaker pairs" if that's the case.
