My biggest takeaway from this is that the armorer didn't do her job by making sure there were no live rounds present on set. The 1st Assistant Director didn't do his job by grabbing a gun off the armorer's cart without the armorer knowing. And Alec Baldwin made a fatal mistake by just trusting that both of them did their jobs, so he didn't ask to be shown the gun was "cold" by the armorer. Everyone just assumed the other people were doing their jobs, and numerous failsafes failed. The biggest question is whether or not Baldwin actually pulled the trigger or if it happened like he said. I hope they are testing that firearm to see if it is defective or not. I have a sneaking suspicion that he is either lying or misremembering. In the rehearsal footage at the beginning of this video you can clearly see him pulling the trigger.
@isaned2 жыл бұрын
Every KZbin channel about guns made a video about how his bullshit stories don't add up. A single action revolver CAN'T ACCIDENTALLY go off. They debunked it over and over. Baldwin had to have his finger on the trigger for it to fire. Plus he should know what a loaded and unloaded gun feels like. Also, you never point a firearm directly at a person and pull the trigger unless you intend on killing them. Finally, he should have checked it when he received it to ensure he had an unloaded gun.
@bruscifer2 жыл бұрын
Baldwin is a ignorant anti-gun SOB. He doesn't know diddley about firearms. If you watch the video carefully he had his finger on the trigger and snapped the hammer. Nothing wrong with that method. What is wrong is him not checking the pistol himself.

Police deference to celebrities is disappointing. Two people are shot and we don't want to offend or inconvenience the celebrities or film crew. If this was you or me, we would have been hustled into the back of a patrol vehicle and immediately taken into custody for later questioning by detectives. I don't like the idea that they let the prime suspect control events and timelines. In statements, the detectives recorded that Halls actually blocked the armorer from conducting that final rattle test of the dummy rounds. In the afternoon, after lunch, Hannah was required to wait there at the church for Baldwin to arrive, and do that final repeat "rattle" test of the dummy rounds with the actor who would be using the gun required to witness. Shortly before Baldwin arrived, Halls intercepted that gun delivery. He was witnessed ordering the armorer to leave the gun immediately, and go remain in another building. It is fair to suppose an older armorer would have refused to obey those commands. Instead, Hannah confirmed yet again that the plan of the day as discussed with Baldwin and Halls in the morning was that no person would aim any dummy rounds at anyone that day. The armorer accepted the bizarre commands from David Halls. She left him alone with the gun. She had complete (wrong) confidence that if either man later needed to change the day's agreed upon plan, and aim the gun at people, they already agreed they could never have permission unless they called the armorer back into the room, and asked for permission in person, and then allowed a fresh rattle test of any dummy rounds the men left out unattended after sending the armorer away. This is the standard bullet-proof process for getting permission to aim dummy rounds at people, every time, no exceptions, not even for Baldwin.

If someone handed me a gun and said it was unloaded and I pointed it at someone and shot them I would be charged. Actors don't have a different set of laws they abide by. Alec Baldwin should be charged with at least involuntary manslaughter or negligent manslaughter or something. They are not above the law. I am so sick of hearing people say it is the armorers fault or somebody else's fault. He is responsible for the gun he had in his hand. Plain and simple. Just because Hollywood has their own practices doesn't mean they are the right ones. Anyone who handles a gun is responsible for the gun they handle. It is their job to know if it is loaded with real bullets or not. It is the first rule in gun safety. I learned that when I was 6 years old.
@Jgalaski84382 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Would you expect Keanu Reeves to go through and confirm that each and every bullet loaded for him is a blank in a film like John Wick? Do you know how long that would take? It's not practicle. Throw in there the challenges of quarter, half and maybe full "loads", the "fake bullet" because you need it to look right, clocking and such, with a non expert such as an actor and you likely create more danger. They hired a "professional" with certification and experience to do a job. That job was to keep that gun safe for everyone, she failed to do that. The greater issue here is that it seems like the controls and expectations set out by the industry to securing both firearms and bullets is completely insufficient considering that live ammo got mixed in with duds. Should Alec have practiced with people within the rotational dorection of the gun? No. He is not blameless for that. Manslaughter? Not for his actions as an actor. If the reports or other issues with the gun onset are true in days leading up to the incident, a possible involuntary manslaughter charge for his role as producer may be more relevant if he didn't do anything to correct the issue.

The scene being rehearsed called for him to pull back the hammer which is exactly what he did. The trigger was never pulled. Because the finger was resting on the trigger, the hammer could be pulled back multiple times to do fanning with the palm of the hand not holding the gun. I didn's know that until recently in the case of the 1873 Colt and I very much doubt Alec Baldwin knew it either. It is the job of the armorer to make sure the gun is in a safe operating condition, train the actors to use it safely, check the ammunition to make sure only dummy round or blanks are used, to make sure no live rounds are ever on set, and to check the gun before it is given to the actor. If the armoror, the weapons professional, doesn't do their job, I don't see how that can be blamed on the actor. He was told it was a cold gun, a gun loaded eith dummy rounds that don't contain powder or a projectile.

The worst is, that she behaved badly at the last western film set she was an armorer a few months ago. Nicholas Cage was extremely pissed and wanted to remove her from the set. She is CLEARLY mainly responsible for the incident! Listen to her interview. Her guilt was obvious (at least for me). They shot live rounds (plinking) on set. WHY were the live rounds even allowed or at least stored appropriately (to the highest degree)? She is now working in a tattoo shop ... I wouldn't trust her giving me a tattoo! The most pathetic factor is, that SHE sued the supplier of the ammunition! She KNEW (because she shot them) that live rounds were on set! I hope, she will get punished!

Just like most theme parks remain open afterwards. Or Walmart cashiers keep on scanning in the background even after some poor soul runs their mobile scooter into an unstable 2 ton Pepsi display. This one is kind of unique, because it's usually one of the actors getting hurt. And it's easy to watch The Crow and appreciate Brandon's acting, knowing it was his last role. But if Brandon killed someone, it would be impossible to enjoy the movie. Watching him point guns at his costars would be very uneasy. And not the kind of uneasy filmmakers are aiming for.

Alec should have looked at the firearm in hand before pointing it at someone. Also, the officer trying to give him special treatment is BS, the LT told him to put him in the unit and that’s what should have been done.

Apparently her Father is a well-known and respected armorer in the business. She's just following his footsteps. It seems the investigation in looking into the seller SHE got the ammo from. From what I understand live or real ammo is never supposed to be anywhere near the set but this guy mixed in some live ammo in her supply. She, I guess, never dreamed that would happen and took it for granted there wasn't any live ammo in the batch she got. Like most accidents of this kind that will change the way Hollywood armorers do their craft in the future.

Baldwin didn’t get special treatment. He cooperated 100%, immediately agreeing to an interview, which took place at the police station that same day. He did not lawyer up. Everybody on the set was cooperative. They aren’t criminals. It was a workplace accident. He was a model citizen (for a few hours) and that’s not something I ever thought I would say about Baldwin.

If you use guns on set, you should have to go through a gun safety class and be able to clear a gun safely yourself and know if it's loaded. This is what happens when you give a bunch of anti-gun people guns. They think they are cowboys with a toy gun and don't take it seriously.
@ttrestle2 жыл бұрын
This is what I’ve always taught my friends and family on how to handle every firearm: 1) Always assume a weapon is loaded and always double check the firearm is on safety if it has one. 2) Never put your finger on or near the trigger until the final moment when you are pointing the weapon at a valid target 3) Never point the weapon at anyone no matter what you believe, have been told, etc (in fact point it directly at the ground or in air if can’t point at ground for some reason) 4) When moving a firearm, whether you have it in your hand or not, never swing it in front of a person, animal, home, traffic, and on and on, etc. Again, once in your hand keep it pointed at the ground and your finger off of the trigger no matter what. 5) Only put your finger on the trigger when you’re ready to fire and you are aiming at a proper target. The minute you are done firing, take your finger off of the trigger, put the gun on safety, aim at the ground, then holster your weapon. 6) Always keep firearm unloaded and in safe, secure and locked area when not in use. 7) In summary: assume the gun is always loaded, keep on safety and don’t put finger near trigger until aiming at proper target, never point weapon anywhere unless ground, and always keep firearm unloaded and in safe, secure, locked location.
@HerbMartin522 жыл бұрын
Pretty good though some of your points are redundant which reduces the chance they'll all be remember correctly, and it misses one rule that is actually relevant in this case. #3 Know your target and what is behind it. When pulling the trigger Baldwin pointed the firearm at TWO human beings since Joel Souza (director) was behind Hutchins. Even if he had pointed it at the wall of the church the round might have exited and injured someone walking outside on that busy movie set.

You don't understand how movie making works. It wasn't his job to check the gun, there were multiple people who were being paid to be responsible for those firearms and Alec was not one of them. Alec Baldwin isn't a firearms afficianado so it's unlikely he'd know how to properly check and properly reassemble the firearm. That's one of MANY reasons why they hired an armorer. It's the armorer's responsibility to confirm a firearm is good, not the actor's. In the real world it's different, but in the world of movie making that's how it is. Just because Alec Baldwin is a huge piece of shit and just because you may disagree with his political views doesn't mean he's at fault. In the world of movie making, you have a job that is assigned to you. Alec is no more responsible for not checking that the gun is loaded than he is for ensuring the camera was in focus. Did a terrible accident occur? Yes. Is there someone to blame? Yes, the person who is actually responsible for ensuring the firearm was not loaded or that it was loaded with the correct ammunition. That's the armorer, not Alec Baldwin.

that armorer is 100% at fault. As much as some want to place the blame on the 'shooter' Alec, it is not his fault. He is ACTING in a role for a movie. With that come certain trusts and dependability on every crew member to do their part correctly and safely. It is so blatantly obvious this purple haired armorer had no clue what she was doing, where anything was, or any attention to safety whatsoever. It was her "role" in this film to provide safe but real looking PROP weapons. She made a fatal mistake and the fault ultimately lies at her feet. So sorry for Halyna may she rest easy 💔😢💔
