The prize sleeper Sprinter van that pulled the wool over. It's not that there's a lot of rust, it's just... everywhere. Motivation is understandably low, and the rattle has come out of the pram once or twice, but biting off a little bit of progress on lots of jobs is the secret weapon for momentum.

@@soupclassicmotoring to be honest: thats absolutely besides the point ! I hate the fact that yt tries to educate content creators to post as much as possible. Most yt‘ers lack of quality because of that. So for me its important to deliver quality. Not quantity. And therefore your content is through the roof 👍.

When you go to the breaker's yard and the car you're stripping parts off, looks better than the one you're adding them to, that's dedication.

Err, I know the feeling, it's soul destroying seeing every car in the yard looking better than the car you're tire-ing to fix! Even rescued a forlorn BMW once and reclaimed it from the going to heaven/crusher, it was far too good to die.

Sometimes it is just necessary. Attachment to something or just to deal with stupid laws. To take some old thrown away car instead of giving the love to the machine that have treated you well for 20 or so years? It is not *that* much better is it? (lies :c) Or in some cases the thrown away cars have lower mileage or just younger. But also got the weaker engine or not the options or even car body you want. It is not rare to see low engine option cars in the scrap yard but only the good engines in the rusty sorry state. And that are the only ones that do not go for stupid prices. Since even if the cars are identical laws makes chaining the small engine car into a engine you want is agents the law. Anyways in some places it is. Anyways the purity in the paper are all gone if you start to make a 60hp car into something with say 170hp that it original and was a option to have in that car! Same car body or at most minor changes to the body and better brake etc. Yet your basically going to end up with a modified car. Ruining so much about the car in the process on paper. ;c Really it is not odd to have a 60hp car be just the engine that differ to a 100hp car. Imagen if in the future only "historical" cars are allowed to be kept and owned. So that now modified car do not qualify to be saved and be sent to the scraps? Even now the welded peace of junk is the same in every aspect to the "modified" car that is sound and well body wise? Do not work for the big man. Weld that sucker and claim it to be original since xxxx. And it is a artifact to be saved and cared for! Since anything short of that is going to be denied! Even now much love it put into it! Sadly nothing is as good as clean papers when the door knocks.

That silver one was so much better in many ways, and had just had a lot of work done when it was in a crash that wrote it off :(
@SamiHentunen
@SamiHentunen 2 жыл бұрын
@@soupclassicmotoring Was the silver bodied one a factory silver or a white one sprayed? Great work to save yours and now you know it's good and solid. Those spider webs of corrosion around each stone chip (not to mention the paper cuts) look all too familiar, but every one fixed is another one gone for good under a (this time thick) coat of paint. The 903 Sprinter feels just so right and confident on the move, which you shall enjoy once you get on the road to Greece. W906 is like a fragile toy car in comparison.

You should have been awarded the gold medal of restorartions! As an VW/Audi guy myself, I am not shy on challenges to keep my aging ))cars running. Thus working as a top level Audi dealer diagnostician for 25 years. Have just gone through a flurry of your videos, and I am in awe. No US glossy B.S. This is actually what it takes to repair an older vehicle, nothing more, nothing less. Your videos and editing are nothing less than remarkable. Only Irish perserverance and stubbornness can pull this off.. I especially adore the rising level of painstaking performance. This will vane as you learn to cut corners, without quality (experience). Glad to see that you have been able to upgrade your welding equipment, this will for sure extend the longevity of your effort. Best wishes for a future workshop and "prosperity". FINAL WORD: New cars are unattractive to both new possible future owners, what will happen in the future? Keep your old shit running, and stock up on replacements parts.. Environment saved,. The wheel is already invented.. No need to promote child labour to keep Elon's EV's or Audi/VW products, for that matter. I have grown to hate their wokeness, so I try to keep it simple (and rather dificult)as I am cheap. Greetings from Norway.😊

Due to their 'green' drive, Mercedes now sources rusty metal as part of it's recycling process and it goes straight into new vehicle manufacture. I think this guy must have huge go%ads to take this on, but it's probably a walk in the park after the amazing resto he did on the W123 and Rangey which sounds glorious btw.

Handy having a few spare vans for repurposing panels.... the sprinters rot like transits only I'd say transits are probably thicker gauge steel 👍 You are great to watch, I couldn't agree more about vinyl wrapping, I worked in a sign place and you could tell who was an expert with the scalpel. Sometimes it's shitty vinyl that is hard to work with and other times it's amateur butchers, like welding you can have all the gear but it doesn't make you a decent welder. That's a nice, and profound thought. What stops me bowing to it is the realisation that many special and rare examples wouldn't still be with us if someone didn't bow to it either. Pity it's a Sprinter van in this case lol

Use a hammer and dolly on the welds will stretch the metal that shrank due to welding and the sunken and distorted metal will go right back into shape. Any heat (welding) will shrink the metal. Hammering stretches it back.

Great to see you back George. How you still have 112k subs is beyond me? Not shabby at all but should be over 500k when compared to lesser mortals. Hope all is good - take care

I found mixing small quantities of epoxy easier with a couple of syringes, or weight. I rarely mix up big batches now. Btw, love the waves, looks cold though. Last I saw clean waves like those was Manly in Oz, still have the wave ski and dream!
