For your issue with your music: Try alternating what you do, focus on storytelling sometimes, other times focus on lyricism. If you end up liking one more than the other, focus on that. Possibly, you could learn to do both quite well. You do have some clever lines, your Laozi line from the Gai rap springs to mind. Just, experiment, if the audience doesn’t like something, try something else.

Rustage I think you do just fine telling the stories of the characters even with some of your older raps for example the hokage rap cypher, you told a pretty good rap variant of hashirama's story. Along with that you also told a good story with minato in the legend rap, you're just as good as anyone else. (Personally I say better hehe...)

I love all types of music you do: Bar heavy, Extreme unpredictible flows, or Just the feel of the character. You are correct that other artists are really good in one thing or the other, But you are different. You can do all of these styles really well like an all rounder. Personally I would like some Feel of character with some complicated rhyme schemes, But it depends on what you want to do with your rap. I loved the raw energy FabvL put into this song, fucking S rank. For your issue with your music, Rustage. I understand what you say, and the answer isn't really easy. You just have to choose, whether you feel like making a 'themed' rap and rap about how COOL this character is, or tell the story of the character through rap (or song). And if when you reach the point where you feel like you have a solid grasp of how to do both, you can combine them! Don't pressure yourself, though. Do what you want, if one week you feel like doing one thing do that, and if the next week you feel differently do something different, or if you feel the same for weeks or months than keep doing that. And you can only get better at both things if you do them, so give it a shot. That’s what’s great about how often you post music, a lot of artists make 1 album with 11 songs in 2 years, so it HAS to be perfect every time, but you guys create a new song every week, and are on other people’s songs also, so you can experiment and just create so much more art

I think either style would be good depending on the character. If you have a jovial character like Goku then bars and rhyme schemes are probably the way to go, and for a deeper character like Light Yagami a storytelling style would fit better. The more you do both the better you'll be able to get in those mindsets

I think the answer to your question is story because you make a more interesting and powerful song by focusing on the story of the character and it leaves room for you to make multiple songs on characters talking different aspects and I tend to enjoy the songs you produce when your telling the story of a character more than just going crazy with bars even if it’s only slightly
