Shy? Hah! More like discerning and cagey as hell. Runner both literally and figuratively comes to mind. ..... Anyhoo, Just got done listening to this. Much better. Good story. Thank You. The only thing I found off was the abrupt ending, like it wasn't quite all there, especially with all the dead air that followed. When you write your siren's magic, you remind me of Sandra bullock in Practical Magic as she casts her spell for what she thinks will be the impossible manifestation of "the man of her life", little bits of this and that woven together to tell a story. Given this, "The Strawberry Roan" came to mind with the bronc busting scene. Based on the song (we are after all transplanted westerners, hence my love for westerns), my mom commissioned a local wood worker to build her a rocking horse out of cherry wood when she admired his work in someone else's home. Why? Because every large Victorian farmhouse full of kids and their kids needs one, doncha know? Often she would sing the song to us as we grew up, personally giving me a love for Marty Robbins to this day. When the rocking horse was finished and delivered in all it's artisan glory, a niece of mine clambered aboard the toy and started rocking, building to a furious pace when she suddenly fell off. Ol' Strawberry, aptly named thereafter, had bucked her off, living up to his reputation of being a bad one to tame when you're all of maybe five years old. She'll never live it down. I think my mom gave him to her for her own girls before she passed away.
