Cendrillmon VS Zephagamon!! | Digimon Card Game: EX7 Digimon Liberator Cup (ROUND 2)

This is Round 2 of the Digimon Liberator Cup, a tournament featuring 8 decks from the 7th theme booster of the Digimon Card Game: Digimon Liberator. The next two decks to clash are Cendrillmon and Zephagamon. The Yellow Cendrillmon deck revolves around the swarming of Familiar tokens which result in exponential aggro in combination with the weakening of opposing Security Digimon and Overclock. On the other hand, the Green Zephagamon deck is also an aggro deck, but one that revolves around striking down the opponent's Digimon with Vortex and Piercing to generate additional damage / attacks. Which protagonist will proceed to the quarterfinals?

This was a rather intense matchup, with both decks possessing high explosive potential. I also felt it was tricky to film because Cendrill's gameplan of swarming small bodies plays into Zephaga's wincon? It doesn't really matter if Cendrill has protection as Zephaga can just pierce through the Familiars / other small bodies (and Cendrill too if she only has 1 minion out) to convert into an OTK. So I did get quite a few one-sided games in early playtesting and an overall sense that Zephaga has the advantage in this matchup, which does match both decks' performances in the EX7 meta (based on the Japanese site I refer to, 6 topping lists for Zephaga and 2 for Cendrill). So I'm glad that even though I tried to play more cautiously as Cendrill to evade that Vortex OTK, I think I managed to get a pretty close match that still showcases both decks' strengths! Next up, I'm really excited to experiment with Nature Spirits and revisit Dragon Linkz!

Yep, I totally agree in a normal matchup Zephaga is a bad matchup for Cendrill, I would say 70/30 favor to Zephaga side.

Honestly, this really showed how strong both of these decks can be. Vortex is a little clunky but, with that Shoto tamer, it’s going strong. Meanwhile, Cendrillmon has the right cards to bring a decent amount of pain with Overclock.

​@@nimmord.12yeah, they're a really good option to start out with and get competitive right away i wish you luck with whatever advanced starter deck you went with xD i got the beelzemon one and upgraded it xD even after the meta changed and the deck got nerfed a bit, it still fairs pretty well against some new decks. just a bit harder than back when it was at full power

The two archetypes are clearly designed to have interesting counterplay against each other, which is nice to see. FWIW, personally I found the bgm with lyrics to be somewhat distracting, I feel it's better when the music is only instrumental.

This match definitely felt like a better display of both deck’s skills. I definitely got the sense, watching your game, that both decks are strong in their own right. I didn’t feel like CardProtagonist’s match of the same two decks executed the balance as well… though that may be because their matches are scripted. Zephagamon is definitely more straightforward, strategy wise, but that’s to be expected from Aggro. Cendrillmon requires more strategic spending of your resources, as you quickly burn through your own Rookies pretty quickly with Overclock. In a way, the Zephagamon deck plays like it’s Green/Red, given its pseudo Rush & pseudo-Raid; and Cendrillmon plays like it’s Yellow/Purple, given its use of popping out weaker bodies, only to end up sacrificing them for more powerful effects. Very interesting.

I really love the new Arisa and Shoemon cards from EX7, they work so well with the old PawnChessmon cards. I made a rookie rush deck and swinging with white PawnChessmon and popping it gets you two bodies on the field with one of the 3 cost Arisa tamers, often putting down an old black PawnChessmon blocker if I'm not swinging everything for game. It works so well especially since a lot of effects in the meta are just deleting/battling and not bouncing.

Just something to note 8:44 if you had a tamer in trash or hand you could play that or you could reuse the option since it has liberator in the traits and is 4 cost or less since it only specifies a CARD.

Yep I know! I didn't have a Tamer. Also, you can't use an Option with it because Options are 'used', only Digimon/Tamers can be 'played'!

As I understand it, Cendrillmon is pronounced like sahn-druh-mon, since it comes from the French Cendrillon, the original name of Cinderella. Could even be sahn-dree-mon, since that’s how you’d pronounce cendrillon, but the m in Cendrillmon would modify the “drill” a bit.

That was actually intentional. If they left the small body there, Zephaga would have won next turn! So I was trying to get in attacks while keeping my field as thin as possible (or at least, empty of piercable bodies)

You can definitely activate him more than once! But you can't use Vortex multiple times

Damn this showcases perfectly shows how the Liberator option is straight up a downgrade compared to Yellow Scramble for the deck. You had to have found wonderstomp on that turn to be able to win, while scramble would have done everything needed safely for free

I'm curious as to the Cendril variation. Because imo Cendril has a lot more room for different variations than Zephagamon, which is very plug and play. I personally greatly like the Chessmon package as an engine. I don't even run Shoemons.

I thought Zephagamon would win given the its victory in Japanese tournaments but I guess the Princess was too much. Good match, looking forward to round 3. If Shoto had the new Imperialdramon Paladin Mode then he would have won. Better luck next time.

The point is the deck is "pure". Otherwise you'd see Arisa running Pawnchessmons and things like that, or the old Rizegreymon which can give Cendril Sec+1 so she can absolutely rip security apart while also playing a tamer out for free [it's far better as a result than either Chaperomon] Zephagamon in "pure" archetype is a lot better out of the box; but Cendril is pretty strong when you bring in outside cards. All Zephaga gains is Paladin really.

In the alternative ending of the match, in the last turn for Shoto, why not just playing any Vortex Digimon and redirecting with Shoto towards player? I don't see Cendrill being a blocker. And if it needs to be suspended, then using Wind Slicer first and then playing Vortex.

Frankly, I dislike EX7 Zephagamon. I prefer ST Zephagamon because of its consistent Digimon effect immunity, but that's just me. I cut EX7 Zephagamon entirely and run ST Zephagamon at 4.

Sí, en 0 Memoria, si Zephaga hubiera elegido a Cendrill y Cendrill hubiera usado Barrera, ¡Zephaga habría podido hacer OTK después de eso! Pero eso es algo que el jugador de Cendrill puede leer, por lo que si eso hubiera sucedido, Cendrill simplemente se habría dejado eliminar en la batalla. Como Zephaga aún no tenía Perforación, Cendrill aún habría sobrevivido y aunque Zephaga ganaría 2 de Memoria de los heredables de Gale y Fluffy, no podrían agregar ninguna jugada que les permitiera ganar ese turno o sobrevivir el siguiente. ! Yep at 0 Memory, if Zephaga had gone for Cendrill and Cendrill used Barrier, Zephaga would have been able to OTK after that! But that's something the Cendrill player can read, so if that had happened, Cendrill would have just let itself be deleted in battle. Since Zephaga didn't have Piercing yet, Cendrill would have still survived and even though Zephaga would gain 2 Memory from Gale and Fluffy's inheritables, they wouldn't be able to add any play that would allow them to win that turn or survive the next!
