At last. Someone who actually knows how to restore a straight razor. As a straight razor restorer myself I salute you. Nice job. Looks like mid to late 1800s??

Ive done about 50 restos. That rust disolver you have i used on a Joseph Allen Silver Steel and a Hamburg Ring razor to get some mild rust pits out of the finish and made the mistake of letting it sit more than 24hrs instead of one or two and had a blow out in the grind but not the edge on the silver steel and swirl marks embedded on the spine on the hamburg ring razor that was almost impossible to polish out. Those of you watching dont allow it to sit more than an hour or two. I like the rivet pinning. I need to try that next. I have a nice Wade and Butcher that needs re re riviting and pinning as i cracked the scales in the same spot as shown in this video.

What did you soak the razor in to remove the rust?
@MrVintageRestoration Жыл бұрын
Evaporust😁

Good stuff I hear. Haven't tried it yet. Depending on the size of the piece and efforts I usually do electrolysis or sodium hydroxide or vinegar/baking soda on my razors and vintage cast iron skillets.

Austin, what solvent did you use on the blade
@MrVintageRestoration2 жыл бұрын
Hey David! I used Mineral spirits on the second blade. The first one I tried evaporust. It's a great product and works well, I just messed up and forgot it for a week. Only supposed to be in there 12-24 hrs
