I know you have rust converter on there, but you may want to spray some paint on there to protect the bare metal and seal all of it. Even if you aren't doing a full restoration right now, you will save yourself a lot of work later. Just some rattle can paint would help in the long run. You are making great progress.

Hello Matt, I would have a slightly different approach to the restoration, but everyone likes and wants as he likes. The sheet metal would be more important to me, then the motor and then the rest (axle, electrics, brake, etc.) But as already written, everyone does it differently, only the final result counts. Keep it up. Greetings from Germany

You should be taking every part off clean all rust and apply sink or aluminium primers do then satin black stone chip. If you do this on all parts on disassemble then e van will be future proofed the chassis rails and out riggers on the front there should have been done with this process! With a small spot blaster to remove the deep rust. You can buy the pressure washer attachment that is a water blaster this is a great idea to blast the whole area and keep the dust down and remove all the crud in one passing.

Brake line wrenches are a must have tool. When using a normal wrench on brake line nuts there are only two surfaces pushing on the opposing flat sides of the nut this crushes the nut making it out of round causing a poor seal and brake pedal fade or total brake failure due to loss of fluid pressure. Brake wrenches hold 3 sides of the nut. Don't be tempted to use them on regular nuts and bolts just like valve adjustment wrenches over torquing will spread the open end of the wrench this causes the same issue as using a regular wrench in the first place. People died in wrecks after brake service giving the need to create the tool. My father & grandfather always told me there is a reason for these things don't take them for granted! Things are engineered to use as few pieces as possible so that washer that's left over was needed to stop failure from occurring! They tried it without that piece that's why it is there. Multiply the leftover part by one million. How much would one million cost? That's how much less It would have cost to make without that little washer. That is profit lost!
@CTmoog5 жыл бұрын
Good advice man! I'm going to get one this week! I appreciate the support! Thank you! Stay tuned! More to come! =)
@ltdees23625 жыл бұрын
You should replace all the suspension/control arm bushings before you rebuild the brakes...just a suggestion! You've got an awful lot going on at one time, slow down, one battle at the time! Evaluate/prioritize and create a project spread sheet to keep track. With limited space your going to have parts management issues. I would concentrate on getting the engine back together, air dust dirt will take its toll. It ran so well after you got it cranked and you did a great job with that. You have that wonderful engine stand, get her back together and you free up one of your tables!
@vitorcamilo67965 жыл бұрын
Another note: The brake fluid pipe, who connects the two front wheel cylinders, is over-sized. Usually it accompanies the outer contour of that giant washer that is next to the wheel mirror. Take a look at the drawing of the manual, and confirm that the curve of the pipe is exaggerated.

I guess you also need to apply the rust proofing to the area underneath where you were pulling out the old brake lines. i guess as it should be just a rule of thumb rust proof every area that you are working on before you put new parts in but yeah i guess we don’t need to see more rust kill videos and maybe you’ve already planned to do what i’ve said in this comment. Hate to break it to ya but, you don't have to replace any of the hard brake lines. They don't go bad. Just blow them out with shop air. You do need to replace all the rubber lines though.
@notajp5 жыл бұрын
Actually, yes you should on any vehicle that old with that much rust. Steel lines will rust just like any other part made of steel. I’ve had to replace almost all the metal lines on my 98 Cherokee due to rust out. Brakes is one place you don’t take chances! This isn’t like a modern vehicle with dual circuit brakes. You only have one circuit on this vehicle. If you get a leak anywhere in that system, you lose ALL brakes. Not good! It can ruin your day and maybe someone else’s too. Permanently........
@stevewarren30515 жыл бұрын
@@notajp No. The brake system is a sealed unit. No moisture can enter the lines to rust them out. The only way they can rust is from the outside. If the outside is good, the inside will be as well.

Hey Fred! I'm going to buy one this week. I want to have one when I install the new lines so I don't mess them up. Stay tuned to see what happens! =) Thank you!

Can you pick up some generic brake lines of the correct diameter and practice the bending before you go with the real stuff? It looks hideously complicated.

Hey David! That's a great idea! I'm going to use the old line that goes from the front to the back. It's long and should give me plenty of practice! This is going to be a challenge! Stay tuned my friend! =)

Nu warte doch mal ab, jeder hat eine andere Vorgehensweise (ob es Sinn macht sei dahingestellt). Diverse Blecharbeiten stehen ja auch noch an. Just wait and see, everyone has a different approach (if it makes sense is left open). Various sheet metal works are still pending.

Why not rebuild the front axle/suspension before installing new brakes? It's kind of like putting socks and shoes on before you put your pants on.
