In this video you will see me restore a neglected record bolt cutter. I picked this up from a local market for £3. This tool was extremely rusty and pitted. I handle a lot of rusty tools a this was by far one of the most heavily pitted tools I’ve come across.
After many hours of filing and sanding I finally achieved the finish I desired. As a homage to the original condition I left pitting on one of the plates.
Thank you for thanking time to watch the video, I hope you enjoy/enjoyed it.

924 s are all most people will ever need. I remember getting my son some for Christmas when he was a boy. I bet he has still got them. His were 924 F i.e. they had the jaws for doing flush cuts. Excellent cutters. If the jaws get damaged you can hard face them with cobalt rods.

You get a thumbs up for freeing up that nut, let alone the rest of the work you did. Job well done.

Great job! A big come back from what it looked like at the beginning. I also like to restore bolt cutter and limb cutters made by H.K.Porter at their forging plant that was in Boston, Everett and Somerville Mass. My dad was a machinist there. I has just started restoring a 1880 bolt clippers that was patented by H.K.Porter before the company started.

Nice work. Glad u took the time to save the old rusty bolt cutters. Using a file to clean up takes time, but it shows in the result

I'll be honest I thought a manky old pair of bolt cutters wouldn’t be that interesting, it would only be a half restore at best. Well wasn’t I proved wrong! A fantastic job making a great video. Thank you.

I'm sure you know that you shouldn't heat up the jaws, they are hardened steel. The heating degrades the hardened steel back to mild steel. Even 'sharpening' needs to done with care with frequent cooling. The cosmetic restoration looks really good, well done.

Impressive! I was so surprised that you were able to get those bolts off. It looked like they were permanently rust fused together forever. Great job! New subscriber...

Great job mate. I will be honest , I would have given up when I seen the pitting but you did an excellent job at restoring it. This might be a 10 minute video but I know how long it must have taken to get it looking that good , nice one mate.

I have bought many different sets of Record Made In England Bolt Cutters so cheap from there largest size which is the 942 too smaller sizes etc, I have quite a collection of them, I have taken nearly all of them totally apart, Apart from both of the 942 bolts cutters i have managed too get the handles off etc but i still need too get the bolts out of the jaws with my manual impact screwdriver, I have cleaned all of my bolt cutters & greased & oiled them they are all still in there original condition just cleaned up a bit i'm not a person that restores things i like whatever it is too be in it's original condition, Your bolt cutters are missing the metal plate that goes over the bolt cutter head bolts & you are also missing the screw bolt that holds the metal plate in place i sometimes see bolt cutters that are for sale missing the metal plate & screw bolt that holds the metal plate in place which also keeps the bolt cutters jaw bolts in place & position & tension, If you would like too know where i bought all my Record Made In England Bolt Cutters / Croppers / Clippers / Clippit from let me know i'm not going too tell the world about it here, I know of several places where they are all bargain prices i won't say where here, They are all so cheap i could buy them all day long no problem & have a huge collection of them they are always for sale so cheap, You can also buy replacement parts like the jaws & jaw plates etc for all the models very cheap as well yet again i won't mention here where, I actually have two sets of Record Made In England No.942 & a brand new complete set of Record Made In England Bolt Cutters 942 Head in it's original box all bought so cheap every single bolt cutter that i have bought has been a bargain, I have no use for them always but i really like them i very rarely use them in the garage etc, The most recent Record Made In England Bolt Cutters i Bought we're the No.618 Clippit these are Very Rare do some online research you will not find hardly any information about them if anything that's all i'm saying here not telling the world about it, I bought them for a bargain, If you want too see my collection of Record Made In England Bolt Cutters i have plenty of photos on my phone i could e mail too you, Another fantastic brand of Bolt Cutters are HK Porter which are Made In the U.S.A i don't have a set of these but i know where you can buy them all different sizes as well, There is other brands if bolt cutters as well but Record Made In England & HK Porter Boston U.S.A These are both fantastic quality & two of the best bolt cutters you can buy there is other brands but not many another brand is called KAM you don't see many of these about but i have seen them.
