I was watching Jun’sKitchen the other day, and he got a knife from the thrift store which was in just as bad condition as the machete here. If he had electric sanded it the way you did here, all the beautiful engravings on the knife would have been scratched off 😢

BC Rain it’s fucking disappointing to see BuzzFeed recreating the same thing. It absolutely disgusts me
@bcrain2733
@bcrain2733 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's recreation that's the problem! It's not easy to constantly come up with original video ideas, and there are plenty of high-quality videos that are about the same topic! It's just the lack of respect they seem to have for the items - just a little bit of research into the proper way to clean a sword/machete/knife/whatever would have solved the problems present in this video.

Dude if there was anything written or engraved on the sword it's gone, compare this video to a Jun's kitchen restoration and he makes it sharper while the writing remains.

Hadhoodi Hafez and IF it was there are possibilities there might be engravements that could lead back to the Secret War of Vietnam or the previous owner, but many that I know of don’t have engravements only because they never did engrave other than sharpen.

Next time try polishing it by hand because you can damage the blade very easily. I know these big machines can make it faster but you can get a more better result when hand done. Also it really scratches the knife up from scratching it with the metal sponge and the sand paper. Im not trying to be mean in anyway, this is just a freindly tip for next time.

+Mauz Considering that it is his first time, I think it would be pretty obvious that he is inexperienced. Did he ever state that he was going to run a business off of this, other than for the video itself? Last I checked, he did not. Do you think it is fair that people hate you for trying something new, despite you not having any experience? If anything it ignorant, it is that. I think I was absolutely correct: People are hating on him to inflate their own egos. It makes them feel better about themselves knowing that they can attack someone for having less experience or expertise than him. It is not much different from gamers who endlessly kill noobs in PvP games when they cannot adequately compete against higher-level players.

3.14159265358979323846 26433832795028841 i respect your opinion, but it makes 0 sense to me though. If somebody feels the need to boost their ego, why this guy? Nobody knows this guy. If a guy does a shit job on a sword, they are going to say he did a shit job. I believe that it has nothing to do with egos, and more to do with this guy having no idea what he is doing and that buzzfeed should have hired a professional to do this.

SAND IT "daddy daddy I hurt my knee while riding my bike" don't worry son all you need to do is... SAND IT his wife: I'm having an affair with that guy you keep buying sandpaper from, it's been going on for years and the only reason I'm telling is because I lost every shred of respect I've had for you. SO just you know I'm taking the kids with me. Sandy go help your brother Gobi put his prosthetic leg on the uber will be here in 5 minutes. goodbye "whatever his name is" I'd say sorry but that wouldn't be true. him: don't worry I'll fix this I'll fix everything all I have to do is.... SAND IT a few moments later a bloody phone on the floor with a screen flashing "you've missed your ride and will be charged a $5 no show fee...."

For anyone wondering, the the smaller the number is the more abrasive the sand paper is. 80 grit sandpaper is extremely coarse and will take more material off the surface, 220 grit sandpaper is very fine and will take less material away.

MayMay Machine almost how he’s doing but you *must* put your hand and apply pressure on the part of the blade you’re sharpening all the way down to the heel and when you’ve accomplished a burr, *but* only apply pressure when pulling the blade backwards to prevent cutting into the stone. This is how the Japanese did and still do it, and they seem to have a good idea or two about sharpening stones.

Remember to always use a metal that is softer than what you're trying to clean or remove rust from. The steel wool scratched the brass, you'd want to use a brass/copper wool or brush in order to clean brass without scratching it.

People don't know how blades are made or built in the first place. Electric tools only hurt a blade if you use them improperly. A good 90% of modern blacksmiths use electric belt sanders to sharpen their knives, with whetstone to put finishing touches. People are just triggered because they've seen some Jun guy mirror polish a knife.

I HAVE many times and just for proof i tried the method used in the video TWICE ( to give it a fair chance )and it ruined the blades integrity (it thinned the blade and ruined the temper making it bend too easily)and for the power sander thing that’s pre tempering they are shaping the knife not to mention you can use belt sander on the taper but not the rest of the blade because the taper IS’NT what GIVES THE KNIFE IT’S INTEGRITY and I know this because I apprentice in this THIS IS LITERALLY MY JOB and I don’t pretend to know what I’m doing for KZbin money (sorry for the rant btw)

Can we all stop arguing about how he restored it? He did what he wanted to do, and he owns it so he has the right to do that. Sure, other people have done stuff like it, but can we just appreciate how good and clean it looks? He said he’s happy about how it turned out, and that’s what matters. Not to offend anyone, of course. Just thought I’d point it out.

The "brass piece" is called a ferrule. That it needed to be glued means that the handle should be replaced as it is worn or has shrunk. I'd say both. It shows signs of cracking in addition to the wear. Ferrules are traditionally a friction fit.
