I'm happy for you. It's great you're back in the 'Air Saddle Again'. Thanks for taking us along in this flight. You look as good in real life as you sounded flying the sims. The Cherokee 140 is arguably the best plane to return to the air in. I love the Piper Panel layout and it looks like you added or got all the right electronics to make this aircraft a treat to fly. Great job as always and thanks to your lovely passengers for letting us share the flight with you.

Thank you very much Dale! I am very happy to be back in the left seat after so long on the ground. I recently go checked out in a 2006 Cessna 172S with a Garmin 1000 glass cockpit. Thanks to flight simulator it only took an hour of dual instruction to get signed off in the aircraft. I'll be adding a video of that airplane sometime in the not too distant future. I'm also working on the A2A Cessna 182 video as well.... so many airplanes to fly.. life is good! Best regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Hey Vincent! I promise to continue with more simulation videos. Flying the simulator for all these years on the ground really helped me get back up to speed quickly in the real plane. I recently got check out in a 2006 Cessna 172S with a Garmin G1000 with only an hour of dual flight instruction. There will be a video on that aircraft in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, I am also working on the A2A C182 video. I'll keep them coming my friend! Cheers from Tim

Yeap Tim! that would be really cool to watch a video of the Cessna 172S, and same for the A2A C182! I really love A2A planes, I only have the C172 at the moment, but I might go and get the rest of those fabulous trainer airplanes. Cheers. Vincent

Thanks very much Dreamsofwings! I'm still working on audio and video setup in the cockpit. I had a GoPro Session camera on the windscreen for another angle, however, I apparently forgot to push the record button. I also have a second way to record the headset voice audio. I thought I put it on record but apparently pushed the wrong button. Hopefully I can work out some of those kinks on the next flight. Thanks for the comments and for tuning in! Thanks Dennis, I did okay considering it's been a long while since I acted as pilot-in-command. Having the flight video really helps me review and find areas that need improvement. I got checked out in a 2006 Cessna 172S with a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit last week. It only took an hour of dual instruction to get signed off thanks to having flown the G1000 so much in flight simulator. I hope to work another video in flying the C172S down on the coast sometime in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, still planning a video in the A2A Cessna 182. I have been concentrating on the real world aviation to get up to speed, but now ready to do some more flight simming. I am going to be using Foreflight on the A2A Cessna 182 video. Should be pretty cool. Stay tuned my friend! Tim

Nice to put a face with the voice from your flight sim videos. What was the process to get flying again, do you just need a checkout from an instructor ?
@FSMaNiA
@FSMaNiA 7 жыл бұрын
Hi UPS1000! It's good to upload a flight video where the pilot isn't invisible. To bring my Private Pilot License into currency I needed a fresh 3rd Class Medical and a BFR (Bi-Annual Fight Review). Normally a BFR flown with a CFI will take about 1 or 2 hours. Since it had been so long since my last flights I spent extra time (about 5 hours) to get back to a level of proficiency considered safe enough to carry passengers. So basically yes just a checkout and endorsement from a CFI along with an updated medical certificate and I'm good to go. Thanks much and best regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

That's the position I'm in right now. Although I'm retired, I need to get things organized to where I can dedicate some time to getting current. I've been retired for two years now, and I think I have less free time now than when I was working. Anyway, I hope to get back into flying soon. I'm thinking about ordering the King School course for "Rusty Pilots."

I just looked up this tail number on Flight Aware dot com and it is scheduled to take off in 12 minutes from HBI to 5W5. It's now 14:03 and looks like no departure yet. Must have something to do with those cells popping up and tracking south towards the airport and flight path. 14:30 update -> Annnd he's in the air! The cells are dissipating and ol' boy took off into a bit of rain.

Hi Philip, It took about 5 hours of dual instruction with a CFI to get comfortable and signed off with a fresh BFR (Bi-annual Flight Review) before I took the plane up alone. I can say that much of the flying came back quickly, however, crosswind landings as always were the biggest challenge to regaining stick and rudder skills. At any rate, I don't think your ever too old to learn something new... If you have the desire, why not take a few flights with a CFI in the right seat? It's never too late and it might just turn out better than you think. Thanks for tuning in and best regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

@FSMaNiA 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer, So sorry for the very long delayed response. I one hundred percent recommend flying for anyone who has a passion for aviation... no matter how old you are or how long it's been. Flying has changed a lot since I got my license in 1978. I really enjoy learning the new technologies. I will say the cost has dramatically increased. My initial flight training was $15 per hour for a Cessna 152 and $7 per hour for the instructor. When I took this particular flight the airplane cost was around $130 per hour... YIKES! It seems like all of my hobbies are ultra expensive. I also enjoy boating, computers, and photography. I'm retired now so I'm thinking about taking up something less expensive like knitting ;). Thanks for tuning in and cheers from Tim G., FS MaNiA

I am "Back in the Saddle" after 25 years. If you are thinking of getting back into flying, forget about how you once could grease your landings, you WON'T. I have everything back except my GREASED LANDINGS, almost, right now, all I can say is that you can WALK AWAY. I am soooo HAPPY.
@FSMaNiA
@FSMaNiA 4 жыл бұрын
Awsome Martin, Crosswind landings are the hardest ones to recover. Intellectually I know how they are supposed to be done but it takes a ton of practice to get the proficiency back. Walking away is good.. taxing away is great! Cheers, Tim

The back right camera seems to move around wrt air frame, as if on an inertial gimbal. Is this because of the anti-shake algorithm referencing the outside terrain instead of the air frame and interior?

Hi ivan, that particular camera mount was loose. There for all vibrations were transmitted directly to the camera. I now have a more heavy duty mount that keeps the camera nice and steady. Thanks for your question. Best regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Hey, After using FSX Gold Edition since 2007, I finally made the switch to P3D V4 . I waited to see what was on the market and looked carefully at all the release info and videos for each. FSW was a visual let down for land class with no third party support on board. The performance in P3D V4 is outstanding and was released as a finished working product. All the focus issues are a thing of the passed, both close up and far away, with autogen as far as the eye can see. Better yet, Orbx is ready to load out of the gate, along with Aerosoft and a host of others, many of them without a charge. So if you own it, they will update it for free. I love this new 64 bit platform. It will make you're future sim videos a breeze!

Hi Darrin, Flight Simulation is currently in a major state of flux to be sure. It's hard to keep up with all of the new releases. I am seeing P3D V4 and XPlane 11 rise to the top. It's good to have the 64 bit platforms at last. I will eventually get caught up on the newest and latest when the dust settles a little. Thanks for the information and best regards, Tim

Hi Jon! Yes most definitely Flight Sim has helped me to maintain at least a good grip on procedures and a good working knowledge on the new avionics like the GTN 430 and the G1000. It still took me a few flights to get comfortable in the left seat. I was able to get checked out in a C172SP with a G1000 with only an hour of instruction thanks to having flown the navigator in several FSX birds. It has been good to do some real world flights... I almost forgot how much fun it is... stay tuned for more my friend! Cheers, Tim

FS MaNiA Yeah it was beautiful. I've never been in a GA aircraft, but I have been thinking about trying it. You can go on a test flight here, in Sweden, for about $160. It's the bumps that worry me though and why I stick to P3D and DCS. :) But your video made it look like so much fun.
@FSMaNiA
@FSMaNiA 7 жыл бұрын
You should give it a try. Tell the flight instructor to pick a day with light winds for starters (early in the day or late in the day works best). I doubt the bumps will bother you at all when you have the yoke in your hand and the horizon in sight. You'll never know if you don't try.... just do it ;)
