It's 1997. I wake up on a Saturday morning. My cousin, who had slept over the night before, is up before me. He and my brother are playing Sonic 3D Blast on the TV in our room at the lowest possible volume. They are on Rusty Ruins. I join them as we take turns trying to beat the game. Life is good.

2002 (yes, because consoles were a rarety in my hometown). My friend had Sega MegaDrive, I came to visit him when he was playing Sonic 3D Blast. We also took turns, and when we beat Green Grove Zone he introduced me to the next zone (Rusty Ruin) with something like: "OK, this is where Sonic turns into a ballet dancer" 🤣🤣🤣

People nowdays labels it as a bad Sonic game, personally I think it's just ok gameplay wise, what stands out to this day is the technical details, the floating scrolling Sega logo, the FMV intro, the animation of the characters which still looks good, and the music!! The developers did a great job using the Genesis hardware, not a bad way to send off the system in my opinion.

The OST made the game much more enjoyable to me, zone tracks likes these exude a mysterious, melancholic vibe that is very different than Sonic's games at that time but still very undeniably Sonic. Such a good OST, and I have many positive memories associated with it in my childhood when I first played it 🥰 Very formative stuff.

Blitzing through the rustic ruins at the same overwhelming speed as he did through the Green Grove Zone, he comes to a screeching halt mere inches in front of a strange contraption. A ceiling fan, or something resembling it, but mounted to the floor, and spinning at a velocity much higher than would be needed to cool off any heat-stricken creature looking to cool off during a long summer day. He quickly glances around at his surroundings, inspecting the area for traps that might spring out if he gets to close to the machine. Content that the fan wasn't another one of the kooky machinations made by the Doctor, he tentatively puts a fraction of his weight when stepping on it, and sooner than even he can register, finds himself spinning at an incredible speed, but in a manner different from his typical, iconic spindash manuever. The hedgehog spun upright with much of his momentum channeled into his rotational velocity, rather than linear. He moved around at a leisurely pace, but his body twirled at such a speed that he found himself obliterating pillars that he came into contact with, pillars so sturdy that even his normal spindash wouldn't have been able to destroy. His vision was a swirl of rustic colors and unkempt greenery, and the experience was so exhilerating to even someone as agile as him that he let out an enthuiastic yell of joy, electrified at this new "ability"
